<<I would also like to see a way to store custom features, specifically hair, so I could swap back and forth depending on how I felt on any given day. I'd like to be able to do this without being required to wear a hat, or fascinator, etc.>>
While more of a system idea than an item idea, I think this is still a great idea. Any opportunity to make customization easier is a plus for the game.

The closest to this right now (without a wig/hairsticks/etc) is to pick from the pavilion list. The entire feature system would have to be rebuilt, unfortunately.

Myself... I'd welcome what the OP asked for. I don't actually oppose having to wear an item to get a new hairstyle. The opposition is more in forcing that item to also be in the description. I can't help it. I'm just not a hat person.

So a magical hair brush that could style your hair to a different (or a few different) options would be acceptable...? |
Okay, I checked out the feature pavilion, so I'm going to use the names provided there to hopefully remove any confusion about my request.
I'm going to guess you're talking about a magical hair brush that would change Hair Style, Hair Texture or Hair Color? I'm sure people would enjoy something like that.
With my request, I am looking to save and change the Hair Quirks portion.
If I receive a feature alteration and choose something like this:
She has long (Hair Style), razor-cut (Hair Texture) dark blonde (Hair Color) hair tucked neatly behind her ears (Hair Quirks).
I would want to save that in the magical hair brush somehow. If I could save my custom feature alteration, I would have the option to play around in the feature pavilions without needing to find another feature alteration to return back to my altered features.

Let me put my vote in for this too. I'd love to see a number of custom hair styles/colors/etc in those hair bauble type things. Stuff that hides on you character and adds scripts/customization is pretty great.
I'd love to see a flea or something like that for male characters that works like the baubles but offers male type scripting. Just generic scripting like "Man leans back with an uncomfortable look on his face and scratches his back" just generic stuff like the baubles do for hair.

Mister Roblar ... I meant in the Lands proper. Unless I misunderstand something, the wiki page is just a list for people's information. If I wanted to name MY weapon one of those names, too - nothing stops me, right?
So you see the merchant, the sword is named and listed in the permanent registry in Elanthia. That way there would be only one weapon with any particular name.
It would make a terrific service!

Ah I see. I'm not sure the registry works like that right now and it would be more so an internal GM check if a named weapon exists before doing the alteration, rather then a service. Without building a new tracking system I think.
Maybe a NIR can confirm if that is one of the tasks you do when modifying an item (in this case weapon naming). If so, would it only be done when creating a READ, or also if writing the name into the SHOW?

Hilts that add a +2 to AS, kind of like the whetstone sharpeners.
Whetstone sharpeners/knapping/grinding service for +DF, AvD, whatever.
Bonding service that just allow the weapon to return to your hand if disarmed.
Some sanctification might be cool. Custom, Arkati based sanctified scripts might be neat for combat gear. Iasha atmos without the Iasha.
Something to do with urnon. Come on guys, it's a neat metal and needs some love.
I'm a weirdo who uses an obsidian weapon so I'm desperate for any tiny bit of +AS I can get out of it. Being able to customize unique weaponry of any kind is half the fun in this game. Even the smallest of advantages can make me a happy shopper.

There's lots of fluff out there that's marked functional despite having not having an actual function. If you had one altered back in the pre-enhansive days (when you only really had to worry about how many imbeds and containers you could wear) and are attached to it, then you have to give up an enhansive slot to wear it. I assume that's what Daid's referring to.

>Enhancive items are ALWAYS functional. They're pretty much the epitome of something being functional!
I guess I worded my original post poorly. I'm talking about an item that doesn't do anything, but is technically "functional" and thus it is taking up a slot which could have a functional "functional" item, e.g. an enhancive. That's fluff taking up an enhancive slot; it doesn't mean the fluff is enhancive.
>It already exists. (premium points can be spent to create enhancives)
Sure, that's one direction. Take an item and make it enhancive. However, this is obviously a limited service (it's making enhancives).
Taking a fluffy item and making it actually "non-functional", even if it is "functional" for unknown reasons, can be essentially a much less limited service.
The deathbot will come back eventually.
>Daid: Pretty sure you have a whole big bucket as your penny jar. You never have only two cents. :p

Temple wear: religiously themed adventure wear. Basically tiers to unlock that culminate in Arkati specific messaging.
More Arkati cloaks with new Arkati/spirits
Weapons that take on a different flare depending on the wielder's convert status. Double flares for clerics and paladins.
Weapon base changing
High end realm based flaring weapons with super fancy properties based on location (kroderine, bubble flares, etc)
Phase weapons that make noncorporeal undead corporeal before the strike lands

With great effort you combine the value of your two bloodscrip, leaving you with a single parchment bloodscrip valued at 2112.
You think to yourself, "Another toy that helped destroy the elder race of man..."

When WTrick/Spit came out, I was propounding the creation of 'chaw' bundles to make them particularly, uhhh, juicy.
Basically, a given warrior would learn (or discover, or find an ancient text with description of a particularly efficacious [i.e. 'Auction win']) recipes of herbs to bundle together, and bite off a hank of to chew upon. Various effects--good, like 'continual low-level herbal benefit [HP gain, scar reduction, whatever]' for the Warrior, or bad, like 'spittle so noxious it would gag a goat... and induces a 2-round stun if it hits a WTrick/Spit target in the eye'--could be established based on the recipe.
Never happened, but it could still be done.

Yeah, what she said -- err, that is, what I said.
After seeing the amazing staves from the automated staff-making apparatus during Briarmoon Cove, I wondered about the feasibility of other mix-and-match, DIY shops. Custom-blend perfumes, teas, coffees, tobacco, or other consumables would be nifty, I think.

If you have an item that you believes fits this, you can ASSIST to have it looked at. Keep in mind that if it's a container (pocketed), it's functional. Also, magic, enhancive, and so on and so forth, etc.

>Kind of like Haliste's custom dipping apples at EG? Only with good (bad) smelling stuff?
Something along those lines, yep! Those apples were awesome. It's also a bit like the staves in Tunnel Vision during Briarmoon Cove or the sweat shop that shows up from time to time at festivals. The staves were what really got me thinking because they allowed so much customization. PULL for shapes, TURN for colors, SPIN for themes, and you could come up with something really spiffy. I don't know if all these customizing shops use the same mechanics, but one or another of them might work for a custom perfumery, tobacconist, or tea shop.
Let's take perfumes as an example. You'd buy your chosen flask/bottle/ampoule, then pick an overall descriptor -- "warm," "bracing," "aquatic," "loamy," "fruity," "sharp," "airy," and so forth -- that would set the tone for the fragrance. Pick a few single fragrance notes or accords from menus, possibly arranged by type (spicy, herbaceous, animalic, floral, fruity, resinous, sweet, etc. -- somewhere like Fragrantica.com would help a ton there), to create the body of the perfume. Then round it out with a base/top note description: "underscored by...," "contrasted with...," "darkened/brightened with...," "with hints of..." "mellowed by...," To give it a little more personality, you'd choose the strength at the end: "haunting the air about her," "clinging lightly to her skin," "enveloping her," and so forth.
If I wanted to, say, create an Elanthian version of one of my favorite perfumes, I might wind up with something like these:
>"She has the warm fragrance of juniper, cardamom, and amber darkened with orris root haunting the air about her."
>"She has the spicy fragrance of juniper, cardamom, and amber mellowed by orris root clinging lightly to her skin."
And the step-by-step process of creating those in the shop would look like this:
- Buy a bottle
- Pick a descriptor
- Choose from up to X scent menus (would be ideal if we could pick from the same menu more than once)
- Add a base or top note descriptor
- Select the base/top note
- Choose desired strength
- Done!
If you wanted to get really crazy with it, you could have different kinds of the same scent on the menus: "powdery orris root," "dry orris root," "velvety orris root." "Radiant amber," "resinous amber," "sweet amber." "Black cardamom," "green cardamom." You could also include some stinkiness for those who embrace the pong; real perfumes often contain a few rank civet notes just to add some olfactory interest. Ooh, and if the descriptions feel too short, make us pay through the nose for a second line and an additional fragrance note/accord -- "A lingering impression of [note/accord] remains after the initial flourish of fragrance has faded," for example.
Not, uh, that I've thought about this concept much or anything. :)
