You glance at the iron woodsman's axe in your hand.

You assess the axe for structural weaknesses and strengths.
You heft the weapon a few times...but note nothing unusual about it.

Zissu mutters junk.

>att mino
You swing a crude iron woodsman's axe at a lesser minotaur!
AS: +363 vs DS: +239 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +95 = +256
... and hit for 93 points of damage!
Neck broken.
The lesser minotaur twitches several times before dying.
A low gurgling sound comes from deep within the chest of the lesser minotaur as he falls slack against the floor.
Pushing deeply with your fingernail, you notch another mark of victory into the haft of your axe.

>l at my axe
You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter's glyph. You see 1 crudely cut tally marks down the haft of your axe.

Meh...

You swing a crude iron woodsman's axe at a lesser minotaur!
AS: +364 vs DS: +223 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +49 = +227
... and hit for 89 points of damage!
Whoosh! Several ribs driven into lungs.
The lesser minotaur is stunned!

Meh...?

<Insert much bloodshed>

You swing a crude iron woodsman's axe at a minotaur warrior!
AS: +463 vs DS: +111 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +2 = +391
... and hit for 195 points of damage!
Spectacular slash!
The minotaur warrior's left arm is neatly amputated!
With a surprised grunt, the minotaur warrior twitches one final time before falling still upon the floor.

You grunt in agreement.

That axe just made my jaw hit the floor. WOW, the power behind that thing at full strength(I'm assuming that's full strength). This could be really fun in a warcamp.

Silly mortal, full strength is OVER 9000!!!!1!1!one!
But really, 100 is about as high as any savage that wants to run around with this can count anyways.

There is more to this hunk of junk, but maybe tomorrow...

...how long do these notches in the haft last, and does it cost anything (see string returners) for the extra AS boost, or is it entirely based off of kills?

oh...also! Does this hit undead naturally? If not, can it be blessed? Undeadbane on this would be really cool. <hint hint, grin>

To avoid being overpowered, my guess would be:
- notches are Seed1 (so 15 kills == +5, +100 == 5050 kills), because 1:1 seems more than a bit over the top; and
- 24 hours from first notch, at which point they start (or maybe all at once) disappearing.

But that's pretty cool!

Yes, with the added bonus of dying your skin 'rusty iron orange' in the process!

All it costs is BLOODSHED! As long as your landing the killing blow on a like-level creature every 3 minutes, you get to keep your marks. Feed the beast!

Nope and nope! Mostly because of this:

>l at my axe
You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter's glyph. You see 100 crudely cut tally marks down the haft of your axe.

>assess my axe
You assess the axe for structural weaknesses and strengths.
Careful examination indicates the iron woodsman's axe has a base strength of 60 and a base durability of 150. You also determine the current integrity of the iron woodsman's axe to be at 100.0%.
Checking out the axe, it looks like it is phenomenally weighted to inflict more damage.

Typo in the look is fixed, sorry for that. I also fixed it so the look only displays the marks messaging when it actually has marks. Having 0 marks will show standard look messaging.

Even though I didn't win either one (I didn't have anywhere NEAR those kinds of silvers :) I found it useful to identify the item by seeing that there were 0 tally marks.

Aren't some poorly-done Forging projects also "crude"?

Having that indicator of specialness may be a handy thing....

Hi Zissu,

The buyer of the THW axe let me play with this awesome new weapon and I noticed it does not always add a notch for every kill. Are you sure it works with every cman (quickstrike, dervish stance), ambush verb, etc?.

I haven't gotten to try too much yet to figure out the weighting progression. At 14 tallies (but more kills) of my bandit task it was at fairly damage weighted. So will check more into that soonish :)

I Marked and Registered it just before doing the bounty if you need to view the swings.

Thanks!

..but wonder if the weapons can be enchanted (I assume so) to permanently have the enchanter glyph, and once you get a tally would the scrip repeat the enchanter glyph message? Would the enchant and glyph (both?) go away when the tallies fade?

Glad your enjoying playing with it.

I'll check on some of the cmans and get back here. They were neither included or excluded explicitly, so I'll see how its working right now.

One important mechanical note is that your credit for a kill is level difference based with you and the target. If you kill something 5 levels lower than you, your technically getting half a tally mark, but no increase in power or mark messaging. If you kill something 5 levels above you, your getting the increase of 1 mark, but halfway to a second mark in that same kill. Tally mark messaging only happens when the power changes.

Feedback on the marks in the look is good, thanks for that. Once I reread it, I wasn't a fan of the implications of saying 0 marks, but the feedback is great. I'll see what I can do to clean that up.

Finally, these are not enchantable, and even if they were, it would get overwritten by the marks. The enchanters mark showing up when it has an +AS value is a side effect I haven't found a way around yet.

Thanks, yea that makes sense now.

The owner suggested something like "faded marks" instead of the original 0 marks show. Though that would then necessitate messaging change when the bonus itself fades.

Also, the inspect verb doesn't show the weapon base:

"After a careful inspection you determine that a crude iron woodsman's axe requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively."

In the specific case of the tally count == 0, diplay text string "no" rather than a digit value being converted to text to insert into the sentence.

So there are "no marks".

You should now have a message on look to let you know it's a tally axe even if there are no marks.

Also, I did check on a few of the other attack type verbs (ambush/hamstring/quickstrike), and you should be getting credit for these.

You see the resemblance of faded tally marks down the haft of your axe.

Awesome!

Yea seems to be working, and think I got the break points on weighting down:

3=light
9=fairly
15=somewhat
21=decent
27=heavy
33=very heavy
42=exceptional
48=masterful
63=superb
78=expert
93=phenomenal
100=33.33 pts of phenomenal

Spell effects are neat too, great weapons.

When you get it to +100, can you use a supercharger boost to add another 50?

I'll make a note to test this out at a later date, unless one of the other winners of the tally weapons wishes to do so before I get the chance. I'm now working on getting my Paladin to 25 so he can bond the thing ;)
