True true, obviously there's tons of variations.
If you prep aether cloak with 5-10 mana then you can go right into another area effect spell and put off shaping totally until after that (or just put up another cloak)...guess it depends on how active the area is. I just like PW in general chuckle

To keep from getting slaughtered while shaping (I get a 26 sec RT - mutters), I prep Fire Rain (usually 33), cast then immediately harness 5, cast AC then go in RF (If you have a rune or Hide Cloak) and shape.
At least while shaping, your not getting creamed while shaping. The biggest problem for me personally is not being able to cast VOI after spirit Cloak unless I forgo shaping altogether.
One question I have is what is the determining factor for the Shaping RT. Some younger mages get shorter RTs when shaping than I do. Is it a Charisma or Discipline factor? Or is MD the sole culprit.
Any facts on this?

>>If your in RF, FR doesn't hit you?, how about hiding?, can't see why it wouldn't myself, course I haven't been able to find any victims to try it on.
My impression was that the RF was used to minimize the chance of having the multitude of monsters in the room beat up on you while you were SHAPING your FR cloud. Long RTs in a swarm at your combat level = pain and possible death.

<<Unless it is changed in Magic 2, Fire Rain can hit you in Refractive Field.>>
Good, I can't see why it shouldn't. It functions as an area spell so that makes sense. I believe the reason Woodcubb used RF wasn't to protect himself from the Fire so much as to live through the Round Time of shaping the cloud. If critters don't see you they can't engage you.

No. Believe me, FR does hit in in RF. I meant that the "critters" won't advance on you during shaping IF your in RF (gosh, these initials are getting confusing - heh). I'm not concerned about the fire rain itself, with my evasion and stamina, I'd get just banged up. I'm more concerned with all those critters coming after me during the shaping process which takes me a good loong time.

Yup, you got it Thor. Thing about Warrior Mages and RF is that it's sooooooooooooo expensive. Eact turn on the hide cloak or rub from the rune equals roughly one plat per use. So evertime I cast Fire Rain and decide to shape it, it cost me a plat to hide(mutters).
At least it's better than dying.
