Yep, the Akhal-Teke is a RL breed of horse. However, I wouldn't say it's the same as the Akhaal in DR, which seems more of a cross between an Arabian and an Appaloosa. Akhal-Tekes do not have that sort of coloring.

I'll be honest, I don't know why the DR horse breed was called Akhaal. It's a bit misleading, almost as if they had a horse breed called the "Morgaan" that was 18 hh tall, long legged, and always white. My personal preference would have been for a name not associated with an actual breed in RL.
