don't know if anyone has noticed this or posted before on this.. i have bugged this several times in game for awhile now..
You leap up onto the blue roan horse, settling yourself on an elaborate white leather saddle lined in pale fleece.
>assess
You assess your combat situation...
You (solidly balanced) are behind a blue roan horse (1) at missile range.
>
I'm on the horse and also behind him at missile range...
I've also seen where I was facing troll 1 at melee, troll 2 is at melee with me, and Tin Can is at missille range facing me, while kicking troll 2..
If you followed all that..either way it was wrong ::grin::

Re: bug with assess on 09/06/2002 08:22 AM CDT
That happens when you are not mounted, kill something, and attack the next critter, if there is no other critter you end up facing the horse. You probably did a face next, or advanc <next critter>.
"Signal horse to retreat" gets it out of assess, where before you had to leave the room, wait, and go back in.
It does not appear to teach Multi, fas I can tell. <grin>

I wasn't really concerned with how to correct it... It doesn't affect me with combat. I know how to get out of it. The point is, if I'm sitting on a horse, no matter how I got there, and I assess, I shouldn't see myself at missile range with it. That was the point of me posting it in the bug folder. If its not a bug, then I have a really long horse.

(if there is no other critter you end up facing the horse.)
Now what I want to know is this cuz I've come across this problem alot, you have such and such person in a room and lets say for the sack of arguement and to give them the benifit of the doubt, thier not AFK scripting. they are hunting in the room I pass through it and pause while waiting for my caravan to show up goblins falls lies dead next thing I knew the person is aiming at my horse even with 4 other goblins in the room. is this because my horse came in last there for is the first "critter" in the room or does this poor person have a death wish? and if it is cuz the horse came in the room last and is the first thing you're gonna aim for is it a bug that can be fixed as to not have horse targeted like they was some "critter". I'm very proud of my horse and I wouldn't want to see him killed cuz someone wasn't paying attention to what he/she was aiming at

I would think you were facing it inadvertantly, and then mounted it. It would make sense that the engagement system and the mounting system are not too closely tied together. The only instance I can think of where they touch, is when you are less than missle range on anything, you can't mount your horse.

I faced it on purpose. Then mounted. My only point in all this is that I was on the horse and assessed as at missile behind him. No matter what the reason, it is incorrect for me to be able to do that. It does not hurt me and I can easily play around it. I was simply pointing out that it is wrong. Therefore a post in the bug folder.
And no matter where I am with a critter I can mount my horse. Melee, Pole or Missile. The only time I can't mount my horse is when I am standing on the ground prepping a spell.
