Why do I learn more from killing 4 creatures at once with CL than I do by killing 4 creatures one at a time with something like fire ball?
Anyone know?

Every tried plinking away with GZ? from my experience it teaches more per critters, although it takes longer to lock. Knowing you, the "killing 4 creatures one at a time" is killing them in 1 hit, possible 2 if the first one hits a limb. Your CLs are probably 12 bolts or more, which translates to hitting about twice as many times. It may be that because the individual bolts are less accurate, so killing with them teaches better.

Yes. That's a possible explanation. That each attack gives a base amount of exp before you even do damage, thus killwith 3-4 CL bolts teaches more than with 1 fireball.
HERE"S SOME LOG SNIPPETS FOR YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK I DON"T KNOW WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT...
CL
Before CL:
Targeted Magic: XXX 56.55% thoughtful
After CL (killed 4 fresh (no previous wounds) creatures):
Targeted Magic: XX 56.55% perplexing
That's a jump of 5 learning levels.
thoughtful to pondering, pondering to concentrating, concentrating to muddled, muddled to very muddled, very muddled to perplexing.
Fireball
Before any FBs:
Targeted Magic: XXX 58.75% thoughtful
After killing 2 peccs with 1 FB each:
Targeted Magic: XXX 58.75% concentrating
After killing 2 more peccs with 1 FB each:
Targeted Magic: XXX 58.75% muddled
That's a jump of 3 learning levels
thoughtful to pondering, pondering to concentrating, concentrating to muddled
Pretty drastic difference.

Hey, Tessaa... just my opinion, but could it be possible that FB or ALA aren't teaching as well because they're killing the critter through body part destruction as opposed to vitality? I know I've killed something in a single cast of GZ and learned almost nothing from it because all 3 hits landed on and destroyed the chest entirely.
I know whenever I get kills on critters with ALA, whenever I remember to check the body part is entirely destroyed afterwards.
As for plinking... I use GZ because at low preps with my lynx I costs me precisely no mana to cast. No aether familiar to do the same with AEL.
'Banana' comes from the Latin 'Banana', meaning 'Help! My dog is creating a disturbance!'.

could it be because CL is a higher tier spell than both FB and ALA? that could account for the learning difference.
i'm also curious to know the answer to this...
Rehlyn
The strongbox just bounced out of the room near a low tunnel!
A giant skeletal claw rises rapidly from the mire, lurching outward to grasp at you! You dodge lithely aside!

Two good points. I am also curious to the answer.
