The only spellbooks that teach scholarship are the bonding ones. The cheaper, non-bonding books are for RP only. If you bought one of the bonding books originally purchased by someone else you wouldn't even be able to use it.

Not true. You can study another person's spellbook for scholarship. You might not have access to the other functions (like writing), though.

I swapped spellbook cases with someone, and for some reason the best idea at the time seemed to be to swap them with the books still inside and then remove the books and swap them back. We traded cases, and neither of us was able to get the other's spellbook out of the case. So I suppose you could buy someone else's book if they hand it to you and it never leaves your hand, but don't plan on storing it in the matching case they sell you.

Well that's odd. The only testing I've done is when they hand it to you, you study it and then hand it back. I guess not having anywhere to put it would get to be a problem.

My empath is currently using my cleric's spellbook and is able to take it out of the case and put it back in flawlessly.

Maybe there's something particular about features of your books?

We both had the custom "Made To Order" bonded books from the merchant. The only thing I can think of is perhaps it was a bug that was fixed and no announcment was made. I don't recall the exact messaging off the top of my head but it was something to the effect of "You really shouldn't touch that" or "You should probably leave that where it is." Was very short and to the point. Its not likely, but maybe they're treating spellbooks like homes- the whole account has access. If we could get a GM to comment on it that'd be great.

As far as I know, bonding does 2 things. 1) Puts your name on the book 2) Knows which guild to bring spells up from...like empath, cleric...ect...

And if there is a bloodlock on it, it can't be opened by anyone at all.

Other than that it can pretty much be used by anyone.

Yes, i definitely let my empath borrow my rangers book every so often. Also anytime a friend asks to borrow, weather permitting, they read it too. Whether or not i had the book or the case over doesn't seem to matter. No blood lock on mine.

Also, the sockets? You don't have one of those odd crystal things on it, do you? I always thought they just zapped the person if they touched it, but might have osmething to do with it.
