I've recently discovered a nasty bug in how multi ops skill is used to
offset penalties for being engaged to more than one creature at a time.
Actually, it has more to do with very old code not being written properly
to account for skill ranks above 100. The result is that any multi ops
skill over 100 actual produces a bonus that makes it more advantageous to
have a creature on your flank or engaged to you but you not to it. This is
a serious bug that must be fixed. However, it's been there since day one
and so I'll be fixing it in a very cautious manner.
First off, the exact fix hasn't yet be decided upon but it will mean that
creatures on your flank or behind you (it's engaged to you but you not to
it). will have much greater penalties and the maximum you will be able to
offset the penalties is to bring the penalty to 0. However, each extra
creature you are engaged to or is engaged to you will make it tougher to
offest the penalty. Exact details on how this will work will be posted in
NEWS 8, and in the combat topic.
This bug will be fixed shortly, but it won't go live for at least two weeks
and there might also be an opportunity for you to test how this will affect
your character.
This fix will definitely make fighting multiple opponents more difficult.
My early assessments are that if I implemented this now, anyone fighting at
their maximum level will die rather quickly when facing more than 2 of
those creatures and you may find that the 2nd critter is significantly
tougher, depending on your multi ops skill ranks. Being swarmed will
definitely be a deadly situation, even with creatures you normally have no
trouble fighting.
Before this fix goes live, the way multi op experience is handed out will
be reevaluated. It will always be tough to get but if my expectations come
true it will be uptweaked.
While I do expect this change to be significant, I hope you understand that
it's absolutely necessary.
