said it once, I'll say it again... this is stupid:
>draw
* Moving with powerful grace but just as its opponent stumbles, a forest geni claws savagely at you. You fail to dodge, mis-stepping and blundering into the blow. The claw lands a powerful strike that cleaves the foe clean through from collarbone to hips.
The forest geni dances lithely around your dead body!
Your dueling iltesh falls to the ground.
Your death cry echoes in your brain as it quickly dawns on you that you have just died! Already, you feel the tug of eternity upon your spirit and you struggle to remain tied to this world.
You are somewhat comforted that you have gained favor with your God and are in no danger of walking the Starry Road, never to return.
Your body will decay beyond its ability to hold your soul in 334 minutes.
You don't feel particularly confident after this.
[You're nimbly balanced]
>
I was dancing and dodging this geni for a good several minutes... and then it does one hit kill.. it didn't even hit me the first couple minutes.. This is ridiculous.. These one hit kills need to disappear.

Just to be clear there is a difference between 1-hitting something because you outclass it (swinging at a troll with 266 HE) and 1-hitting something because your "opponent stumbles".
The first is a product of skill, and this is a good thing for a skill-based game. The latter is a product of RNG critical hits, and I leave it as an exercise for the read in deciding if you like that or not.

And I agree, but these guys still lock my skills. They even move my evasion past pondering. I think part of it has to do with hitting vitals like the neck or chest. I often send heads flying.
Combat skills are different for a moon mage. Maybe I can outclass a target while they still lock my skills. I've never understood that part very well.

As a moon mage you will typically have much better stats than other guilds hunting in the same location. This is a function of circle and TDP gain from other skills that grow to be much higher than your combats. Having just +10 agility can make a substantial difference in how well you hit.
Also keep in mind that fendryads are weak against physical attacks, but immune to lightning attacks. Their axes aren't the best balanced things around, either.
Furthermore the recent change to reflex and evasion made all enemies easier to hit. The multi opponent change also made enemies easier to hit with melee weapons.
For my part I have been one hit killed from full health before on something I'd been dancing with for hours. It just happens. But far more often I get killed as a result of already having some wounds, from the stun, or from the blood loss caused by my now missing limb :P

Random crits need to go. I am really dreading how annoying they'll be when they start happening to my character; Sure, if you outclass an opponent by a large enough margin (Or they outclass you) then a one-shot-kill is fine. You'll know you're screwed no matter what when fighting one though, and be able to avoid death... by avoiding the critter, or using abilities carefully.
However when something that can't touch you suddenly lops your head off just cause you stumbled... it's just totally wrong and irritating, even in an RP sense.
"Oops, I tripped!" DEAD
...makes no sense when a sleeping (Sleeping. As in, asleep. Sawing logs. Not responsive, unconscious. Waaaay worse position than "stumbling") enemy is parrying, dodging, and shield blocking (albeit less effectively than normal) and generally NOT being instantly killed by the first attack than comes along.
Please, I ask yet again, remove these from the game. They only serve to irritate players, because (well, as far as I know... gotta keep an open mind...)there's not a thing you can do to stop them.

A sickly tree grumbles, "Where da heck am I?"
A sickly tree shuffles west.

I say yet again ;) I'm working on it but this isn't something that can be easily or quickly fixed. It requires a complete revamp of how combat damage is determined and I want to do it right.

Quite alright. This topic crops up every so often across a great many different folders. Enough so I've completely lost track as to where all I've said it which is why I included the ascii wink.
