The following changes are live in Platinum and Prime. TF will follow on Friday assuming nothing breaks.
* Parry & Dodge *
I just fixed a long-standing bug that was making the Dodge verb apply a penalty to evasion (heh), while the Parry verb was actually the best for..um..dodging. And parrying, incidentally.
As of today, Dodge will now benefit the evasion skill, Parry will only benefit the parry skill. In addition, you should find that you are overall slightly better at defending while using these defense-oriented maneuvers.
* Balance *
The above changes to Dodge and Parry also include the release of some updates GM Ssra had done to the role of balance in combat. As of now, the bonuses for good balance and penalties for bad balance are now within the global caps.
What does this mean for you? The old system allowed for much larger penalties than bonuses. What this means is that the upper end (ie bonuses) won't be changing very much except at the very high end of incredible balance The lower end (very bad balance) penalties are no longer quite as severe. They are still substantial, however, so they can still have a very profound impact on combat.
