So back playing again.. one thread I havent found yet I'm looking for ,if there is a way to update old armor we like to the level and weight ranges everything has been changed to.Or is everything we have cherished and paid money for to get on previous quests for years bound to the garbage now because its so heavy and stats have been raised ?<referring to leather armor>

Second question whats the lightest broadsword you can make now.Seems everything weighs a ton and creation has been geared for older players,I don't see the 21 stone broadsword that was the staple of young players anymore ,This is a bit of a let down if so and a flaw in the new creation system.

Thanks in advance.

No, there's no way to upgrade old armor.

Thanks for the quick response ,happy about the broadsword sad about all my armor that was acquired through quests I paid money for :< bad overlook of the developers on the fairness and respect to players. Since they are running quests with outdated armor still in them also.

It's not an oversight really. You got the advantage of using the armor when you played before, and you can still use it if you want, it's just not 'the best'. TF players took characters to end game in laughably bad gear all the time. DR isn't like WoW.

But beyond that it's kind of intentional. It's an incentive to make players go on more paid quests and so on.

There are very rarely forgebinding sessions which allow you to take item X stats and apply them to item Y. Or you can simply have your gear altered. It's hard not to find an alteration session once a month somewhere. And some gear did get effected by the infusion upgrade system from Duskruin.

If you could just upgrade old armor to new armor stats then there isn't a lot of incentive to use the new crafting system, or run new quests for their new loot (as already mentioned).

Also, if they were to make a mechanic to do that then how would they determine what stats to put on the old armor? Armor stats/weight is based off of a material's stats and density now, so it's not just a simple thing to do. If you made them a rare material quality then that would completely devalue the rare materials that were released through quests/fests, and if you made them a common material then people would still be upset that their quest armor was the same as everyone else's.

While it's painful to see your old stuff not be the best anymore, it's easier for everyone to let player's upgrade to newer armor themselves, and then you can alter that armor to look like your old stuff if you want or get new armor from new quests.

>>...and creation has been geared for older players

It takes about 200 ranks of Forging with some techniques to make a broadsword from steel. I didn't really mess with the old forging system much, but I'm pretty sure it took more ranks than that in several skills to make a capped broadsword. The new crafting system can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it is much more intuitive and accessible than the old system. Ask some people in the Forges for some help, and I'm sure you will find someone willing to walk you through making something if you wanted to do that.

That's actually a pretty solved problem in many ways, at least in other games: just require that the player own or even consume a set of armor with the stats you want. Essentially you just copy the "appearance" of your old hotness onto the stats of your new lameness and merge them into one set. My understanding is that's what forgebinding does, but it's also exemplified in Transmogrification in World of Warcraft: http://wow.gamepedia.com/Transmogrification

The benefits are that you don't disincentive-ize the crafting system (you want the best crafted armor to make your old hotness better) and may even popularize it since people won't be avoiding crafted armor to maintain the RP of their neato quest armor, plus you require someone to be able to afford and obtain the better stats to begin with, maintaining whatever balance is already in the system.

I'm personally a big proponent of placing "forgebinding" or something similar in player's hands (maybe even part of Artistry?), but the discussion has been had before, so I don't really expect it. Sounds like it's technically difficult in the DR engine.

Forgebinding is for weapons/armor that have scripts attached to them and moving them to a newer/better template and still keeping the scripts. A simple alteration is all that is needed to change the appearance of a new item to that of an old one, as long as the old item fits within the rules of alterations.

Alterations are more common, but not easily accessible unless you are premie. I'm pretty sure neither one is going to be put into the hands of players though, and will always require some kind of staff participation.

Not being able to change simple nouns has always been a huge pet peeve of mine. I don't want to make an axe a sword, but arguably any synonym should be able to work.

Well I wouldn't ask the sky or the best cause even if you took Iron barks and old aged combat leathers.Kinda stuf we used to get from original Taisdon quest high (7/15) protection and fair (5/18) damage absorption for puncture attacks.
high (7/15) protection and moderate (6/18) damage absorption for slice attacks.
high (7/15) protection and fair (5/18) damage absorption for impact attacks.
fair (3/15) protection and low (3/18) damage absorption for fire attacks.
fair (3/15) protection and low (3/18) damage absorption for cold attacks.
poor (1/15) protection and poor (2/18) damage absorption for electrical attacks.

The protection on those isn't horrible, but the weight is ridiculously high. Grab yourself a set of Crossing leathers, or some crafted ones that are better, and try to get them altered to look like your old armor at Guildfest in a couple of months. If you are premium you might be able to grab one sooner.

In case you're unaware, Crossings has had the weapon and armor shops updated to be roughly equivalent to forged steel gear, for a few gold. It's great.

Perhaps make a suggestion out of this for the suggestion area. Make old quest armor lighter, etc.
