First question before I get onto my main question.

I remember there being a website that had a nifty layout for all the weights and RT's for weapons. Does anyone still have that website?

Second question.

I am looking to buy a HE weapon. I can swing a 45 stone bastie at min RT.

Whats a good weapon to use. Broadsword, Longsword, Bastie?

Not that I doubt you really Wighten, but at 50 stones it would most likely be F/R and R/R. Hard to hit reasonable balance on a bastie at that weight with normal steel.

Could really be. Most of the times when I quote weapon stats, I do it from memory, so I coulda swapped 'em

If you can track down a bastard sword from the Outcast tent from the most recent Shard festival, they're fantastic. I prefer the heavier variety:

An engraved bastard sword hilted in onyx trimmed with spun gold is a heavy edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
low puncture damage
great slice damage
low impact damage

You are certain that the sword is fairly balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

An engraved bastard sword hilted in onyx trimmed with spun gold is a two-handed edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
low puncture damage
severe slice damage
fair impact damage

You are certain that the sword is reasonably balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the bastard sword is well constructed, and is in pristine condition.

The bastard sword is made with metal.
Naissura squints at the balance beam needle and says, "The sword weighs about forty stones," and puts the sword on the counter.
You are certain that the bastard sword is worth exactly 340906 kronars.

Are you looking at a heavier weight for more impact? If so, next time the Taisidon safari is around look for this axe:
You tap a dark-handled war axe
A dark-handled war axe is a heavy edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage
heavy slice damage
moderate impact damage

You are certain that the axe is dismally balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the war axe is moderately strong, and is in pristine condition.

The war axe is made with metal.
The war axe feels light.
You are certain that the war axe is worth exactly 15000 kronars.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

It weighs 50 stones and comes bonded to boot. It was the best weapon they had there.

Forged battle axes are great slice/heavy impact. I stand by my initial response to the query. For hardest hitting HEs battle axes win hands down.

Really.... battle axe hits that hard, huh?

But is the increased impact damage worth the extremely crappy balance?

Not if you rely upon parry as a defense. Until the other part to the equation, the force of impact or whatever comes out, balance is king with its importance raising the closer you get to the edge of your skill for consistent/reliable damage.

A battle axe can be forged within the same weight ranges of a bastard sword. In other words, 28+ stones.

Taygar forged me this one about a year ago. 27 stones, kills just fine. I got the axe mainly for RP and cause i didn't want to be running around with a bastie like everyone else.
A battle axe is a heavy edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
heavy slice damage
low impact damage

You are certain that the axe is dismally balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the battle axe is well constructed, and is in pristine condition.

lookin at that appr. it doesn't really seem like anything special, but with 30 agility i can hit most anything i want and even with dismal balance it doesn't seem much of a factor. I start my combo same as most everyone: parr/fein/draw/swee/slic/chop. but after the first round i go to draw/swee/slic/chop repeat and maintain incred balance/overwhelm oppenent 90% of the time.

Up the weight on a bastie by about eight stones and not only do you have higher slice damage (great) but also better balance. AND it can be swapped to a severe slice two-handed edge.

Battle axes are cool, and I personally use a fest-bought flamberge just so I don't have a bastie like everyone else, so I can identify. But the reason they're so common is because they are the best.

This is my light axe - 56 stones IIRC, not close to MAMAs at the moment to verify.

A battle axe is a heavy edged melee-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
great slice damage
heavy impact damage
You are certain that the axe is dismally balanced and is well suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the battle axe is well constructed, and is in pristine condition.

I was using a 48(?) stone bastard before, but with my stats and skills the axe works better for me. As an unofficial camparison:
- starting from newly spawned Peccs.
- using combat sequence feint, draw, slice, chop, return to draw until opponent dies.
- 10 peccs each with bastard sword and axe (note: I get same roundtime on both)
- killing blow with bastard sword was typically on second draw, occasionally slice, and once on the chop during the first sequence.
- killing blow with battle axe was typically on chop, occasionally second draw, once on first slice and once on second slice.

Against caracals the tables turn slightly. If I snapcast a quick Divine Raidiance (unbalances the target) as I'm advancing then the pecc example holds, albeit later in the second and third sequences.

As Navak said, if you are pushing your weapon abilities to their limit, where the little bit of balance difference can make you miss completely, the bastard sword will outperform the battle axe. If you're hitting consistently I've found the battle axe to be superior.

Biggest drawback of the battle axe is that there really isn't much difference in damage between the axe and bastard sword until upper weights, around 60-70 stones, but the dismal balance remains on the lower weight axes.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention another big reason for using it, personally, is that BASH doesn't tank my balance with the axe, but it does with the bastard sword. I brawl 90% of the time I'm hunting, so a stunning bash to the back of their neck or head with the axe, leads into my sheathing the axe and following up with barehanded attacks and shield bashes.

Hero- I think you convinced me- I love my swappable Mallet but I can see the advantage to your beastie Axe- the slice- and the impact- suits my stats too.

Anyone forging Battle Axes like Hero's around?

If not, I will just stick with my Mallet- anything but a bastard sword if I can help it. Just tired of them.

Flavius, get a 70+ stone battle axe if you have the strength to back it up. Trust me, it's worth it... lost mine in a ghosting awhile back :(

Heh- well after checking the calculator- with my best Benediction up, Flavius might do okay with a 70 stone one, but if I can get one like you mentioned for 56, it would be more usable right now. If I can find someone who is forging them I need to try out one for RT and see. Don't like to rely too much on having Benediction up.

thanks for the advise Hero

Any time.

On the roundtime thing, I was hesitant of having a higher roundtime at first. I finally sat down and looked at overall time, though. 56 stones I have a 4/6 roundtime. It was taking me an average of 6 swings, for a total of 32 seconds. With the occasional dropped second between swings it was closer to 35 seconds spent killing each creature. 70 stones I have 6/7, but it only take 4.5 swings on average, or 26-34 seconds. After I ran the tests, I concluded it made more sense to purchase the weapon I would grow into over the next 20 circles or more so I could bond/customize without worrying that I would outgrow it eventually and be forced to delegate it to a spot over the fireplace.

I always remember something after I hit post...

The above roundtimes are without benediction, with benediction the roundtimes drop to the next lower bracket.
