My character is usrrently ME primary at about 116 ranks, with strong secondary TM at about 100 ranks (well, relatively strong). I am, however, looking toward the future and wondering if it doesn't make sense to move to HE (currently only at 75 ranks).
STR and AGILITY are both at 44, and I've gotten better about keeping my defensive skills (armor, evasion, multi and parry) within spitting distance of my primary.
Any advice? I don't mean to start the weapons equivalent of a religous war, but I would appreciate your thoughts.

I love HE, never bothered with ME. Once you get the RT's down, there's really no reason at all for LE or ME unless you're a thief; HE offers the same RT, but better damage, and still allows you a free hand. Though with arm worn shields, I might even suggest 2he (bastard sword?).
With those stats, you might want to get a 70 stone greataxe; I hear the damage they do is awe inspiring.

ME is better for speed while still having killing power. When you get hit by a swarm of critters, you would be surprised how quickly those extra 1 seconds add up. It takes roughly 10 seconds for a creature to reach melee, in that time frame you can swing an ME five times and an HE three times.
For human facial expressions, it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.

I've trained both HE and ME, as well as 2HE. Since you are a big, muscular sort you'll be able to get a lot of power out of a larger blade. But there are some very sweet MEs out there too.
I wouldn't go so far as to suggest you switch altogether, but go ahead and work it: That way if you should lose a weapon for whatever reason it will be easier for you to find a replacement.

Yep for the same rt as HE i'd go 2HE, in fact i did make it my secondary weapon after longbow. and i've gone the rounds, started as LE prime, then to ME, then HE, then longbow, just made the most sense for my character to make longbow prime weapon, bein a ranger and all. another reason i suggest 2he, or even HE for that matter, over ME is that at about 33 stones you've go the best ME you're gonna get and prolly already have min rt. where as with HE or 2HE you have more room to grow. the difference in hit strength between HE and 2HE is no contest for the same rt. when i decided to make longbow my prime weapon it was #5, and about 60 ranks behind HE, so makin up the ranks is entirely possible.

>First, I very much appreciate the advice -- it was well considered and has given me food for thought. I hope you will excuse my ignorance, but if HE and 2HE have the same roundtime, are there no other differences than balance and effect?
Well, it used to be a disadvantage being unable to train shield with 2HE, but since arm worn shields are available, I dont see much reason to use HE unless you find a nice weapon you want to use.
> over ME is that at about 33 stones you've go the best ME you're gonna get
Not entirely true. Dont let the stats fool you, it hits much harder than it looks.
A blood red axe is a medium edged melee-ranged weapon (47 stones)
You are certain that it could do:
low puncture damage
moderate slice damage
low impact damage
You are certain that the axe is dismally balanced and is well suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the blood red axe is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.
The blood red axe is made with metal.
The blood red axe feels light.
You are certain that the blood red axe is worth exactly 375 kronars.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

>no off hand weapon with 2HE. That means no dual weapon. Plus no Large shield with 2HE. As a Ranger you can wear Small and Medium shields and I think wield two weapons.
If rumors are true, only Barbarians will be able to duel wield two HE's.

Little late to the subject, but...
I train ME and HE, both very close to each other:
2nd Highest Weapon: 217 in Heavy Edged
3rd Highest Weapon: 201 in Medium Edged
My experience has been it takes less swings with the HE, but around the same time to kill the same beastie.
I highly suggest training them both. As Ryeka already mentioned, training both gives you more flexibility, plus you'll gain twice as many TDPs.
For HE, as Ucu mentioned (even if he typo'd it) battle axes have awesome damage potential if you can connect. The lower balance makes them a little less accurate than a bastard or broadsword (and quite a bit less accurate than a longsword IIRC), but light/good hits will be a thing of the past. Hunting slightly above level, as long as I connect on my swing it's rare that I don't land at least a solid hit, and even solids are rare.
If you want to pick up a 2HE as well (and heck, why not?) I'd suggest a greatsword. Awesome slice damage and hits from pole range. I'm not overly familiar with 2HEs, but I believe it was a claymore I was trying out that also hits at pole, but loses some of its slice potential for decent impact damage (may have been a different weapon, and one of the blade forgers could say for sure). I consistently knocked over bi-peds with the weapon, so unless I had three advancing on me at once, it was rare for any to get to melee on me as I just kept swinging at the one that just stood up... Works well against incorporeal undead as well. They immediately float back to standing position without loss of balance, but it does stop their advancing, and the extra impact damage tore through their plate armor (dark spirits) like it was paper.
I also highly recommend training brawling.

While it's not the real answer to your question, I do know that at 46 stones you can forge a hand axe that is L/M/L P/W, and that at 55 stones you can forge one that is L/M/F D/W. Those aren't the cut off weights for those stats by the way, those are just weights I happen to know that you can get those results at.

Is it me, or does having 116 ranks of ME as a primary weapon seem odd when you have 44 in both strength and agility? Maybe I'm just not reading it right?
