Well the title speaks for itself. Does anyone know what the most damaging non forged LE is? I need to train LE up some more and these daggers from the Shard fest just aren't cutting it, and I don't want to have to deal with losing a forged weapon.
Any information would be appreciated.
Call me baby-face Lei.

I have heard the critter-jambiya being highly spoken of. And for a store-bought LE, the oben from Shard has a nice slicing edge: The character I got that for likes that almost as much as she does her scim.

It really depends on your fighting style. Ryeka has a forged katar (one of Airaman's first efforts, as I recall). However, the other character tries to be self-sufficient but at the same time can't afford forged gear. And she's not well-known so people aren't going to give her stuff. So that's what she got. Now- She might eventually get a katar from Marachek's Oak to see how that performs. Marachek weapons seem to be a bit sturdier than most others in the same class.

Storebought katars have dismal balance, as well. With LE, I've found that it's unfortunately the tradeoff. If you want power, you won't be able to parry with it. If you want to parry with it, you can't do massive damage (at least from slicing -- jabbing LEs do pretty good).

A black-bladed katar is a light edged melee-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
fair slice damage
fair impact damage
You are certain that the katar is poorly balanced and is well suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the black-bladed katar is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.
The black-bladed katar is made with metal.
You guess that the black-bladed katar probably weighs a few tens of stones. (18 stones)
You are certain that the black-bladed katar is worth exactly 2300 lirums.
It was storebought, then altered. I've tried: mod slice katars they are ok (35-40 stones ick); mod impact katars don't hit that often, but when they hit they HIT (35-40ish stones); koummya from leth is like a katar that doesn't stun as often but has more "criticals" (instead of: "a good hit," it is: "a good hit that tears the right arm"); oben and kythe are great for beginners, but not so much when you get higher on the food chain (no impact damage and strength suitability for armored critters); outcast dagger or shriike I use for parrying and evasion training; old fayrin's rest katar I use for hunting (which is the appraisal I put up). I don't know how much they (old fayrins rest katars) go for these days.
My rankings of Best to Worst LE's:
(ex store bought/player) old fayrins rest katar > (forged) mod slice katar > (forged) mod impact katar > (fest/player) outcast dagger > (store bought) katar/dao > (store bought) koummya > (critter) jambiya > (fest/player) a dark talon blade > (store bought) leaf blade sword > (store bought) kythe > (store bought) oben > (store bought) hunting knife (I used this because I thought it was rangerly)
Jabbers, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pike (LE on a stick :P), unless I had some special manuever from the shadows to use them with. Remember it's how YOU view your character and how YOU trained your character (stat wise).

Beautiful post.
I have one question. What is the difference between old fayrins rest katar and this regular store bought katar/dao that you speak of? I looked at the appraisal of your fayrin's rest katar and it seems to be different than the one I JUST got from fayrin's rest.

A steel-hilted katar is a light edged melee-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
fair slice damage
fair impact damage
You are certain that the katar is dismally balanced and is reasonably suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the steel-hilted katar is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.
The steel-hilted katar is made with metal.
You wonder if the steel-hilted katar might weigh a few tens of stones.
You are certain that the steel-hilted katar is worth exactly 300 lirums.
Mainly the balance and suitedness is different, as well as the weight. How is what you have from fayrin's rest different from what I got from fayrin's rest, and where else do you even find a katar to buy?

A silver-edged katar adorned with a clawed handguard is a light edged melee-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
moderate slice damage
fair impact damage
You are certain that the katar is dismally balanced and is well suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.
You are certain that the silver-edged katar is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.
The silver-edged katar is made with metal.
The silver-edged katar feels light.
You are certain that the silver-edged katar is worth exactly 69000 lirums.
(I dont mind the extra weight, 37 I beleive, makes it hit like a truck.. well as hard as a heavy katar could hit. hehe. And yes I am LE prime. After the outcast one, I like pretty much any plain ol' katar, I have all of the ones from shard fest and a few older ones. Obens are nice as well. Never been too fond of short swords... I don't get near the damage as I do with my katars.)
Anyway thats my opinion.

yeah, thats the exact differance between them. the 'old' katars have better balance. poor vs. dismal

Reality is perception. Perceptions change. Reality is fluid. So if by 'reality' you mean reliably tangable objects and immutable events, then there is no such thing.

In my opinion, they're the best storebought backstabber out there. Out performing even the tago, leaf-blade, and jambiya. However... they're not that great at melee because they're jabbers.

This was purchased when Shard first opened. I guess the GM's wanted it to be a rarity of LE's and tweaked it to the current form which you have. There are a bunch of things that they've tweaked like gleaming silver white plate from Therenborough (used to be alot lighter and a bit more protecting) and massive plate armor from Dirge (used to protect better I think a little heavier too). Arthe Dale used to sell bastard swords. Slender khuj (from Steel Claw Clan) used to be a pike or a halberd and is now either a pike or a halberd. Tiger Clan used to have pouches that could hold long bows and greatswords. Ruby signet rings could hold 100's of crocodile skins. Razor-tip arrows (from Gorbesh One-Eyed Archers/Outriders) used to be the best arrows around. <continues nostalgia>
Depending on what guild you are 'Call me baby-face Lei' there are tactics to help you improve the usage of LE, like if you are a cleric casting DR on a critter before you attack, attack, attack.
