Hey all. I just visited Ratha to buy a laminated double-fuller shashqa (mmm mmm good).. After comparing it to my scimitar, I came to the very confusing realization that it's a jabber. This confuses me because a shashqa (the RL variety of sword) is very much a slashing weapon. It's a sword mostly associated with the Cossacks, and it's originally a derivative of the Persian shamshir (scimitar).

A few examples of shashqas:

It's quite easy to tell by those pictures that a shashqa is designed as a cutting blade. There are some available online that claim to be shashqas and look very much like straight-bladed sabres, but they are in truth much later era Russian cavalry sabres.

I'm only a little bothered by this, because ME jabbers aren't really as nice as ME slicers. Mostly, I think it's just an oversight that might warrant some quick GM attention.

That is all. :)

DR Weapons do not always equal their RL counterpart with the same name. This is seen in many cases and it is unlikely to change.

But it sure should, since all they have to do is swap templates.

"Why, this Greatsword does severe puncture, no slice, and no impact, but hey, it's dragonrealms!"

:p

It wouldn't be hard to code.

Then code it already! grin

I'm just playing with ya, really. But honestly, unless you have some insight that the rest of us don't, we probably don't know what's hard to code and what isn't... In addition, any politics or QA concerns related to those coding issues.

And if there's a choice of a Shashqa being re-coded to be an ME slicing weapon because there's some history related to them being calvary sabres and traditional ancient eastern slicing swords... OR getting the forging upgrade, or guild specific abilities, feats, etc. Then sorry, Shashqa's been around for awhile. It's been a known jabber since the islands opened. If it's changed at all, I doubt it will be done without being part of the "whole weapons review".

I honestly hate people that make a post without offering anything helpful. However, it may just be best to find another sword that suits you nicely. You may want to take a look and getting your hands on a Shamshir (I think it's an end-prize from one of the little quests?) I had one and it's a very nice ME slicer, if I recall correctly. And it sounds better too! (I always thought Shashqa sounded too much like Squash to me)

Okay. My insight is that they use weapon templates.

So, they could transfer the scimitar template from Fayrin's and stamp it over the Shashqa, bam. All done <g>

Or, that'd be the basic idea...

It'd just be a matter, as I understand from their Bueracracy, to get the Ratha GM to transfer the data over...

And, if I were a GM and had the access to the appropriate materials, I happily would Timbre :-x

For what reason would you do that? The Shasqa IG doesn't match its real-life counterpart. That doesn't affect the game, changing it now would affect the game.

Make your suggestions for the weapon and armor rewrite.
