I really don't see the value in this besides just creating new skills for the sake of tdps. The light and heavy metal armors are already similar enough without muddying the water further. Twohanded plate armor might be interesting though...

We still have room for new skills, but yes, we are getting very close to the absolute limit imposed by the game engine itself. We are at the point where we need to ask ourselves whether adding a new skill will benefit enough players to make it worth taking one more step to the days of 'no more new skills' or not.

A similar thread is over in weapons, and I think another in lore, and there was a comment about being too far into the game for this to happen...
but I think that combining some skills into one skill to make room for "new and improved" skills would be a fantastic idea (assuming we are at the max or nearing it)
There are any number of ways to handle it...
I think using the line "we are too far into the game" is a bit weak. This game has evolved over the better part of a decade. Music Lore = Poof, Mech Lore = Poof, I don't see how combining HC/LC or Pike/Halberd, QS/SS, LP/HP or a few others is really any different in a "we are too far into the game" kind of way. If anything an idea like this should be looked into and thought about before the mech split gets out... You may not have to develope as many templates.

I am the biggest "armor Homer" out there, and I do not see value in adding different levels of plate, chain or other armors.
That being said, armor needs a ton of work to make it a skillset that stacks up with weapons (which is what I see as its direct opposite). Not sure if the damage remodel will make this seem less significant, but it might depending on how PTB approach the issue.
