The new carved canes are terrible. If you need a light one, the lightest QS is the lightened bo staff from Nissa's shop. It weighs 20 stones and is great if you haven't the strength/agility to support the higher-weight staffs.
Avoid the Crossing staffs. The weight ratio to damage is terrible.
If you need something heavier I'll be happy to list some other good suggestions.

The best are the lightest of the old carved canes. The bo staff is one of the best purchases available. After that if weight or size is not an issue there is the Atwapi from Leth or "a heavy ash quarterstaff bound in iron at both ends" (Shard Fest I believe). I don't know about the staves in the stores in P4 or P5.

>>The best are the lightest of the old carved canes.
This depends. At seventeen stones and moderate impact (don't parry with them though), my old cane is fantastic. It's hardly readily available though. I could have suggested the swappable glaive from the Shard liberation Fest that does severe impact at a hefty 65 stones, but it's not readily available.

There are a dozen or so Fest staves that appraise the exact same. There are only, to my recollection, two templates for Fest quarterstaffs. Some of the ones you might find for cheaper are the hobbyhorse ones (heavy impact), the witch's broom (also heavy impact), etc etc, all from the same. As he has said, trying looking on the Trader tables if you have decent appraisal and yu can certainly find something good for below five platinum. If you want a store-bought, the bo staff for a young character and the Atwapi for a mid-ranger, say circle 30 or so.

I'm looking for my 45th ranger for backtraining purposes. I'm not too concerned about weight but don't want to take all day swinging it either (strength 23 agility 30; probably won't be getting much more strength anytime soon). Eventually I'd like it to be my primary melee weapon, though. Is there anything worthwhile between the lightened bow stick and the heavier 60+ stone staves?

Is there any sort of demand for QSs carved before the changes to substances? Not that I am quite willing to give mine up, but I am curious. I'm speaking of course of the ones that actually get SMALLER when you carve them instead of somehow getting bigger and no longer fitting in your backpack.

My lightweight cane went for 88 plat in Maulem's Arena auction. If yours canes are under about 20 stones they may be worth a few plat to someone.

I don't know the weights, but someone might post about the Partisans and the Pikestaffs.

An ox-tongue spear with a stout iron-studded haft is a pike pole-ranged weapon.
You are certain that it could do:
heavy puncture damage
low slice damage
low impact damage
You are certain that the spear is fairly balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the ox-tongue spear is moderately strong, and is in pristine condition.
The ox-tongue spear is made with metal.
You wonder if the ox-tongue spear might weigh several tens of stones. (55 stones)
You are certain that the ox-tongue spear is worth exactly 47200 lirums.
Roundtime: 16 seconds.

The Atawpi from Leth or whatever it is called works well and is always available, the poker-scorched uguns nuja and the other one from the Rakash merchants at the Meraud Tower are available a few times a year.
The bonus being that they are cheaper, since Leth only likes to sell crazy pricey weapons that make noises (silly Elves).

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll try the lightened bo stick for now. When I get some experience under my belt I'll upgrade to one of the fest weapons. Right now I can't justify spending more than 25 plat or so.

You could also get a free pike staff from swamp trolls near Haven. With a pike staff you can better utilize the puncture attacks

The CEC lists all critter weapons/armor I was able to kill (or think of).
Its also got all storebought weapons/armor as of 6 months ago (so not P5, and not updates for the halberd/pike fixes).
Just in case it could be helpful.
