Paladin with all the goodie defensive spells, crocs are really easy (can perma dance, never get touched, etc). They have, even when swarming, slowed down alot on teaching me weapons (which are between 115 ish ranks on my main weapon and about 90-100 on my secondary weapons). My defenses range from about 155 (shield) to 130 (parry) and 100 evasion. With Holy Warriors im using most all of my defenses to.
I'd like to stay 'near' Zoluren if possible, nothing that would require me take a ferry. I cant swim the Feldesu Yet (boo tert), I'm pretty sure vipers would be awesome (not sure if they swarm or not, but that be a plus. I think I can block poisons pretty easily, or deal with them with courage) but for some reason I cant spot the last trail just yet (I see signs constantly). I feel im about a good 10 ranks off my defenses/offenses from starting early Leucro (maybe more).
Question is, should I do Vipers (i prefer to stick with things I can skin), or is there something else in the area that would be a good idea first?

You might consider getting a CV rune for the last trail. It's what I did.
If you were willing to relocate I might say togballs out in hibi, but they slow/cap around 180 anyway. Even if you're short a few ranks, can you do leucros early with your defensive arsenal?
Let's save us all some time: I'm a troll who rarely has anything helpful. There.

I might be able to start Leucro early. I fought one that was out on the path. I mostly dogged but he got a good hit on me. Since they tend to be swarmy critters, not sure. Then again I had NO defensive buffs on me (no DA, no Courage, no HOW) so might be worth looking into. My concern though is hitting them with my weapon skills (100 to 115 ish). Think I'm a few ranks shy there.

I was able to dance with 2 without any issues. My MO is great for my circle, although no doubt 4 may start sneaking in hits bigger than I'd like and that adds up quick. While slow, I will milk crocs a bit while I work my perceptions some more (how much do you need for those tracks anyways? Seems silly they are harder to spot than 'the spot'). Then I will either be ready for Leucro or can spend time in vipers.

~150 maybe? It's been a long time since I've hunted there and I was survival primary, so never really had this problem. I do agree that the track to vipers being harder to find than the spot to leucs makes no sense. Only things I can think of is that Rock Guardians are in vipers, or it's just an old area and hasn't been updated to be more balanced.
