Anyone know how much evasion you need to dodge sentinel arrows? I seem to get hit with every single one. I can block them with shield a lot but the shalswar ruin the shields really quickly.

Or have any alternatives for me to hunt at. I want to eventually go to celpeze but I need to bring up secondary weapons first. Don't want to just use 1 or 2 weapons there. I tried mature gryphons but they're always flying and using wind attacks instead of actually attacking. Seords rarely attack so that don't work for me.

Stats:

Parry: 461
Multi: 406
Evasion: 391
Shield: 303
Skinning: 266
HE: 385, ME: 330, 5 other weapons between 250-270
Reflex: 41 (could get it to 43 easily if I just grind out 1/4th a rank of HE), Agility: 40

I thought the shalswar area was good because I can lock defenses and primary and then hop over to gryphons, but the arrows are destroying me.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm a 70th barb and I still get hit while dancing badger. I only have 2 dances (badger/panther), but I can get more if they will help

As an alternative you can try warklins/maulers by beisswurms, but they destroy shields much faster.

I've actually been popping in there to lock parry/multi during stealing runs.

Great defense, warklins work with my edges, maulers are too much trouble. I tried one in a one on one situation and I couldn't kill him before he started auto retreat. Was just a bunch of light hits over and over.

It is a great area with great spawn, but I noticed that maulers every other attack is that special attack which doesn't teach. It must be hard for someone to hunt them really at level. Maybe I'll set up some triggers to see how many special attacks vs regular attacks for them because it seems way too high.

Right now I'm actually still locking parry/multi in fledgling/young gryphons for some reason, but HE doesn't move and raiders is usually dead when I'm around.

Maybe I can get my other weapons to low 300s and try moradu's with them and hop into poloh's for defense?

With 99 agility I can kill south barricade celpeze with relative ease with weapons at 260-370. I'm not sure what your agility is, but I'm sure dances could make up a good deal of slack. So you might be closer than you think.

My guess is that his weapons would have to be at least 350 for a dance to allow him to train them in celps. Even then, an offensive dance will not help his defenses and he'll definitely need Badger to hunt multiple celps (assuming he wants to train shield there).

Currently, looking at his evasion, multi, reflex, and parry (which is nice btw), he might be able to take a celp one on one but 3 or 4 would probably shred him.

I would go to basilisks til you hit about 500 in defense.

It's probably not what you want to hear, but I'd say stay in Young/Fledgling Gryphons and get shield up to par while backtraining some of your mid-200s weapons. Having that much of a disparity between shield and your other defenses may be a problem as you progress further.

If you feel like waiting for me to get another 20 or so ranks I'll be in Raiders to up the spawn.

Might be longer than that. I still have a lot of trouble hitting the raiders with 385 in HE. They just parry everything.

Oh well looks like I just have to milk gryphons until I can't learn defenses anymore, thanks!

It seems like everything in this range has something wrong with it or doesn't gen great. I'd go to basiliks but I can never find more than 2.

I found snear hawfa to work good but need a bless

Oi, I hear that. I'm in a slightly reverse situation as others here, however; fledgling/young gryphons are still teaching TM/Shield/Evasion/MO just fine, but my ME, SB, and Parry (~400) are really slowing down. Raiders are too annoying with that parry of theirs.

Are you in Shard? When I was there I did find there to be hardly any of the young gryphons at all which might be why. I think they're the only reason I can still lock parry/multi. That or I need 5 fledglings.

If you're in Shard might want to try the water rooms, I found the first one where you can go n, s, e to be the best.

Rossmans is better IMO because through the crack you only get fledgling/young and occasionally a mature. No baby's in there to waste your time.

I wish that there was a young only area though, that would be nice. There's 3 rooms up the handholds in Rossman where the young gen good but too many matures which are boring to fight

Fighting a mature:

feint, you can't its flying
pause 20, thud (he lands)
feint, draw
slice you can't its flying
pause 30
a mature gryphon retreats from you
repeat

Yeah, I tried all the new Aesry stuff, but nothing really felt solid enough to set up shop over there.

Purifiers teach pretty well in the high 300's low 400's...

Spawn well since the spawn change...they just have that crazy balance spell, but they teach better than Bristles and aren't as tough as raiders also.

Thank you for the info about the purifiers, looks like this is where I will be.

they gen 6 at a time. it seems like 6 regardless of how many people are in there. Brought my empath in to check and it didn't up gen any], but I can't get more than 3 on me, did you notice that? I stood there for a while and 3 was all I could get on me but as soon as I killed 1 another one came in. 3 don't really teach me multi, but my primary focus is backtraining weapons and shield so I don't mind about that.

I can't hit them with my weapons in the 270s consistently so I'm going to milk gryphons until everything is in the low 300s and then live here for a while.

Thanks again.

I just tried Sentinels last week with 500 parry and 500 evasion. Don't bother unless you also have 500 shield as I left looking like a porcupine. On another note - that naphtha attack of theirs needs to go away. It's nice within the scope of an invasion but for a regular critter to have a "I Win" button makes them unhuntable.

I would recommend trying the Orc Reivers on the first floor or outside of the manor. Reivers teach to 425 in all skills and you can hit them with your weapon skill easily. Once you hit 410 or so in weapons you can move into hunting raiders full time. Raiders teach very well to 500+ lessons.

That stinks. My shield is only at 330 or so now and I can block the arrows when dancing, but shalswar tear the shield up pretty fast since I use a crocodile skin buckler, so its not optimal for me.

i'm doing pretty good in purifiers now, HE is starting to slow down now at ~410, but defenses are still moving nicely with parry at 477, multi at 413, evasion at 414. It is right near shalswar if you want to try them out but I'm not sure if they'll teach much past 500, really need 4 to get parry moving now.

Also, I don't know if its a coincidence but ever since the balance changes and their balance spell I've been getting one shot killed a lot more often there. I even fell over a couple of times which I never did before and I have 47 agility now vs 40 when I started there.
