Need some good suggestions on what to hunt that can move me quickly, creepers/vines tend to swarm a bit and beat me up with full buffs and I can't handle more than 2 blood wolves at a time currently. Is there a place I can safely move up some of my lower defenses or would it be best to just stay in wolves and kill off the third when it shows?

Sand sprites on ratha. they don't hit that hard when they do hit, and there are a number of nice mana rooms for elemental.

The traps are still non-lethal, so it's a good time to start practicing :)

You could have tried to do Cave bears in Crossing as well. These teach to 100ish and could have been the bridge to Blood Wolves.

Sand sprites are the way to go. I'd just ditch the boxes unless your in lockpick/disarm for the long haul. You can skip em in sandies and never look back. Most of my characters move up the skinning ladder and when I need a non skinner to bridge the gap I just leave the boxes on the ground and move on. Sometimes you just gotta let some things go. If you want to open boxes more power to ya, I don't have the patience.

I'm confused by this; do you use loot all, and leave the boxes, instead of just doing loot treasure?

Yea I'm a bit confused as well. The main draw for sand sprites are their boxes -- hard to beat them for those at that level. Spawn rate is great, I'll grant, but there's other options for spawn. Cave bears was a good suggestion. Would also suggest creepers/vines (no treasure training), meadow rams/arbelogs (skinning), buccas/imps (hib - occasional box), and (just guessing never tried em) beisswurms (skinning).

It's for the swarm and the lack of any damage they do.

Vines are above sprites range, they're roughly 90s-100s (Epedia says 70 but I don't know if I trust that). Wurms are below, they'll take you from eels to sprites range, but not much higher than the entry point for sprites. Rams are capped around 70s, Buccas also cap around 80s.

Sand sprites represent an almost unique DR critter; they are incredibly swarmy, with little offense or defense, and they teach in one of the many gaps of poor representation in DR, the 80-100 range. Everything is either capped around 80, starts above 100, or doesn't gen more than 2 per hunter in a 4000 room 'zone'.

Okie doke. I dunno. I didnt touch sprites until I was in the 300 ranges in defenses and decided to backtrain boxes. So grain of salt and all that. Everyone has always raved about sprites, but I preferred skinning to boxes so ignored them. However, silver leucros and those new boar type critters are close by for skinning, so if you're already on Ratha - I'm sure you'll be fine.

I did fine with blood wolves and creepers/vines. It got dicey a bunch. I moved around a lot, too. But blood wolves were the staple. Snow beasts snuck in there at the later stages, as well as gargoyles, IIRC, but my recalling machine is pretty rusty these days so I will bow out of the conversation.

Agreed. Ever since loot treasure was introduced, there really is no need to pop boxes anymore. A pity really.

Can't do thos till you cap sprites, actually.

Even on my cleric/WM/other survival ter guilds, taking the 20-50 rank detour through sprites is incredibly more beneficial than detrimental. They simply swarm and teach that well. And skinning is easy to keep at/above level just by arrange and skinning everything religiously (cleric pun!), so I can still do leucros and such when I get out.

If I recall, blood wolves work well at that level, followed by crocs.
