>>maybe have boss types drop a specific part like a tooth or eyeball style "proof of kill"
+1. But how does it determine who gets the part? Do you have to be engaged to the critter when it dies, in the room, or have to have some effect on you that you have attacked the critter in the last 30 seconds?
Also, if Vinjince slays a mighty beast by himself does he get the "heart" which yields uber treasure, while if Diggan and 5 others slay him, maybe we each get a talon and those yield less treasure?
I like the idea, just needs to be fleshed out a bit.

You fight over the treasure, and the last man standing takes all the spoils of course! How ELSE would it be done?
Bosses are delayed a bit as I recover from combat burnout. They got owned pretty bad in the testing we did, so I need to code up some custom mechanics before releasing them.

Maybe the treasure reward is dished out via the Task system. Get a group together and have the leader ask the relevant NPC for the "go slay this boss" Task, then everyone in the group gets a reward from the NPC that sent them on the hunt rather than from the creature itself.

could combine both ideas, the group gets the assignment for a hunt and returns with proof of kill to the npc to get the reward the task verb showing "areas the critter has been known to haunt" though PLEASE not as frustrating as treasure hunting something like "Gremmik the Putrid has been spotted recently in the woods near the north east gate of crossings! He's also been seen scavenging dead boar meat from fresh kills. Bring back a severed finger of Gremmik the Putrid for your reward." So ten fingers or more (since it could be a grendal or a wood troll based on the area, most likely a grendal with the name like "the putrid"0 The task gives you the hint that fresh dead boar would draw him. he's a grendal so most likely a nighttime hunt. kill him bring back the finger (which everyone in the group could get from looting him) and voila the prized random sack of goodness.
sorry about the block of tezt :( i always come up with these ideas late at night.

My understanding is that they are back in QC and are being tweaked, or allowing a few more systems to be recalibrated for 3.0 and/or released.
