I just got this:
< You step backward and then slice at a striped badger. A striped badger fails to evade, mis-stepping and blundering into the blow. The sword lands a cataclysmic strike (Shock waves ripple outward!) that explodes the heart and lungs with a bone-shattering blow to the chest.
The striped badger falls to the ground and lies still.
[You're nimbly balanced]
[Roundtime 9 sec.]
Is this higher than obliterating and apocalyptic? I have had several of those, but this one was a first for me.
Does anyone know a complete list of the levels of hits from lightest to heaviest?

>Light, good, solid, hard, strong, heavy, very heavy, extremely heavy, powerful, massive, awesome, vicious, earth-shaking, demolishing, spine-rattling, overwhelming, obliterating, annihilating, cataclysmic, apocalyptic.
Put harmless then brushing before all of that, and you have it!
Happy bashing!

Heh, devastating is missing. I would imagine that it fits in right before overwhelming now?

While on this subject the extra damage messaging that we get we the strikes such "rips into the right calf" or so on. Are these just indicating that your wearing the opponent down? Or what?
The reason I'm asking is cause I usually get these messages with the harder hits (the ones strong and above) but lately I'm getting them almost immediately on even good hits, is this just cool messaging or do they mean your opponent is taking extra damage (besides the bleeders that are sometimes caused).

Well- when I'm fighting marauders with one of my lower weapons, I can slice at them for a long while without really hurting them- but when I get messaging about ripping into the right calf for instance I know the marauder will be going down within the next 2 or maybe 3 strikes- at the most.

These messages indicate the sort of crit that you inflicted with your blow (i.e. the wounds that you inflicted upon your opponent beyond simple vitality loss). While the likelihood of getting a good crit is positively correlated with the amount of damage that you inflict, the relationship is imperfect.
Hits that do a very large amount of damage almost always cause a decent crit. Smaller hits may or may not crit based on a few different factors. For example, if you completely overwhelm your opponent's defenses with your attack in the skill vs. skill check that occurs, you are likely to get a crit even if you do a relatively small amount of damage due to your opponent's armor/stamina.
Also keep in mind that wounds stack; if you've hit your opponent several times to a certain part of the body, a small blow may be enough to cause a crit to that area, even though the wound caused by that particular blow is comparatively negligible.
