Unfortunately, the thread I wanted to reply to was closed half a minute before I hit post after typing my response. I'd like to respond here, but if the GMs find it inappropriate, do please pull it again.

>It's a misconception I've seen touted and pushed by Plat players as well.

Just like I've seen TF players brag about all the n00bs they've killed. Having examples to support it doesn't make a generalization accurate.

It's possible to walk away from a five-story drop as though you weren't hurt. More than likely you've still broken both legs, but hopped up on PCP and coke you probably wouldn't notice that little detail (this happened in Albuquerque, and what's even more amazing or funny or what have you is that I think the guy was being chased by the cops and got away).

people survive jumping out of a plane when their parachutes don't deploy... just because a freak accident made it possible, doesn't mean that people do it all the time

Sounds like its time for a good study, get 1000 volunteer undergrads and push them off the fifth floor. I'll wait for the results.

Heh, I am looking for a research opportunity. It has to involve math, though.

Calculate the percentage that survive?

Or if basic stats dont' suit ya, how about calculate the affect of wind resistance and the variance in gravities affect as they fall, to figure out the mean force they hit the ground with.

And then even still, use some more advanced stats to figure out the mean force of survivors, people who walked away as if uninjured, and dead...

And post your dissertation here please.

Heh, my school is a medical school (don't ask me why I'm studying math at a mediocre medical school...) This study sounds like an excellent marriage of medicine and mathematics. Count me in! But I think I'll wait to start until I've had probability in the fall.

Really, as an undergraduate, I was offering to be the pushee rather than the pusher ... how much course credit would it be worth? Is there a lab? Heh.

One of two, sadly the outcome of the study dictates which it'll be.

* Hospital Bed across from your professors room.
* the Morgue down the hall

If those labs will count toward your credits, then GREAT.

For the record, I don't even know what this arguement was about. I just posted the link I did because I had just stumbled upon it and it seemed relevant.

the argument is based on whether or not to butter toast on the top or bottom. It's been escalating into a war for awhile now.

No reason this shouldn't work. Get closer to the bowl until you improve your aim.
