I finally got enough soul for SMH, working a badge all night. And I have to say, its pretty cool. All light hits here, but it taught well.

You gesture.
As you bow your head and chant, a brilliant disc of light coalesces before you. Spinning slowly at first, it gains momentum until blue-white sparks shoot off in a blinding display. You spread your arms wide in a final decisive gesture, and the coruscating light explodes, sending a barrage of razor-edged rays flying out in all directions!

It's excellent for TM training but, as far as I can tell, adding mana doesn't seem to increase the damage any over min prep and it works very poorly against shields or PCs (I haven't figured out which). With 405 TM, it seems to do no damage or might scuff someone with 200 shield and 300 evasion regardless of whether I cast at 20 mana or 50. Maybe that's intentional. In any case, it's a huge improvement over the current non-test version.

Hrm..how much back training do you have to do to hit reliably with it?

I was able to start hitting Baby Gryphons with about 200 weapon skill, at 196 TM a full aimed FST misses them however. Seems like a not very accurate spell. How does SMH seem to compare?

SMH with 190's tm was smacking Baby and fledgeling Gryphs.

And could you do the same with FST? As a comparison?

With FST you really have to pump the manna..from what I've seen so far.

I don't know the answer to that, but I put more manna into it and "seem" to hit more...well, I hit vs. not hitting. (no seem to it)

I have seen the same result, and don't like it at all. More mana, more damage, more exp, I can understand, but if i have the TM to hit and its fully targetted, the amount of mana I put in should not really matter surely.

I wonder if this is just an issue with FST. My warmie can definately hit just as often with a min cast FS and a max cast one..

This leads me back to thinking FST had an innacuracy issue.

FST is 'standard' as mentioned, but keep in mind it is a basic (if I recall correctly) level TM spell. SMH is esoteric and I would expect it to be more accurate and damaging than FST.

We're not running on a tier system like that anymore. Advanced / Esoteric TM doesn't do more damage, it gets that distinction for doing other things (for example, being AoE).

One of the major things that motivated Magic 3 was a desire to end the whole "must have a 4th tier TM" phenomenon and normalize the system across guilds.

I just for one wished out base TM spell had an accuracy increase. The way I look at it its 'advantage' is limiting.

1) it deals physical damage instead of elemental. In general elemental is a better option given how armor works in the game (standard appraisals). Being able to customize the damage type might help a bit, but in general its still inferior to say, fire damage.
2) not having a weapon out means you cant use the spell
3) compared to a friends baby warmie, they can realiably strike gryphons with 189 tm ranks and similar agility to mine (but better disc, to be fair). They can do that with snap casts. I can full aim gryphons with 198 and only hit about a quarter of the time, and cant hit on snap casts.
