Not sure where else to post this, so I'll put it here. I was wondering, since DR is a 'family' game and all, are there any restrictions on language, specificially profanity? I don't specifically have a problem with it on the message boards, since one can obviously not read the boards. It's hard to play DR without being around other people, so I was wondering A: what is the policy on language and B: what to do with someone who obviously feels the need to cuss up a storm after being asked to watch their language.

From what I recall, they've loosened up on things, but only in the regard that..before..if you said one of the seven dirty words, and a few others, you were automatically smacked down.
It is still frowned upon, but they generally only do something if people report it. (There have been exceptions with some GM's still protrolling for language on the gweths and other places)
In other words, if someone is bothered by it, or feels it inappropriate, or wants to protect the "Family game-ness,"..they can report and something will be done about it. Very swiftly in most cases.

Even on the message boards it seems it depends on which BM is doing that folder. Because I've had posts removed for refering to complaining as a "female dog", whereas I have seen others with the same word allowed to remain. It is inconsistent at best.
Most of us are adults here on the board, it is silly to treat us as if we were in a monastery. In-game you have a slightly different situation because you CAN have kids playing. Although I hardly see how seeing the word referring to aforementioned dog is going to jade the person moreso than some of the combat "crits" that imho are far more "graphic".

I've seen posts where GMs have used the same term. I'm pretty sure the general consensus is something like if you can say it on prime time TV, you can say it in DR, but there can be a lot of variation between what GMs/BMs think is appropriate. In general, keep things rated PG - it makes you sound smarter, anyhow.

Regarding this...language thing. I got smacked down for using a profane word...understandable. So a few weeks later, I go hunting, am completely alone (it was daytime in Zaulfang swamp), and say a profane word about something that happened. 3 seconds later, I get smacked down. Is this due to:
A.) Being flagged as a "trouble maker"
B.) The new GM had nothing better to do
C.) A GM being a lil too anal?
I'm curious, since me and a friend hunted together, and he used the same word about 15 times during our hunt. Not once was he smacked down. It's not a big issue, but it seems a lil too anal for me...

umm why not just say the profane word out loud at your computer instead of taking the time to actually type it... I said a profane word out loud with every word i typed here and guess what this post won't be pulled, nor would i get a warning in DR... (of corse my girlfriend gave me a wierd look.) it takes thought to actually type it.. if you blurt it out you blut it out...

I'm guessing here that it's option A. And, I would suggest taking Yamcer's and Raydell's advice.
