Just curious, but what do you feel the epedia articles lack? They're pretty well detailed.

Good question. It's pretty detailed. I suppose I'd just like to talk to some miners about what they feel is a good way to go about things. As for the HOW to do it the epedia stuff is pretty great. Just seems daunting to go give it a shot I suppose.

If you have the cash, and really want to explore the system, I recommend investing in some high-quality mining tools: a pickaxe and a shovel. It will make the system much more enjoyable.

Just head out and start digging. I think there was/is a script up somewhere (maybe epedia, maybe DRSecrets, genie forums?) that was simple enough to get you started and avoid much of the danger.

It's fun, and potentially rewarding if you sink the time into it. I smelted my ore into ingots and was selling them for awhile, hit a few rare veins, eventually got bored with it.

Give it a go!

Mine then (successfully) prospect danger, rinse and repeat. Simple and avoids danger:

MINE:
MATCH MINE ...wait
MATCH DANG Roundtime
put mine
MATCHWAIT

DANG:
MATCH DANG ...wait
MATCH DANG Unfortunately
MATCH MINE Roundtime
put prospect danger
MATCHWAIT

Why? From my experience the dangers don't occur until after you've mined. I've used a similar script to the portion I posted (with prospect danger after each mine) for a large amount of hours and I've never had a single injury.

Is anyone gaining any decent amounts of experience while mining? I gave it a try, just didn't seem to be gaining much experience- which I guess should be foraging and perception- from mining.

Mining out a room tends to lock foraging for me at a few ranks over 500.

I could be wrong but I think you only really learn perception when you prospect. I tend to run through a whole area prospecting every (open) room before I start mining.

Prospecting teaches foraging, appraisal, and perception. They all tend to move rather equally. If I had to guess, it teaches foraging better than the other two.

Yes, sorry, that was worded poorly. I meant to say I don't think you learn much perception from the actual mining portion of it, only from prospect.

A bit late, but how many ranks do you have in the applicable skills, were you just mining or prospecting as well, and what quality tools were you using?
