In the near future we plan to overhaul the teaching ability. If you have ideas, be they guild specific or general, please post them now.
Thank you.

I don't really have any ideas, but in Modus, you can buy a special Teacher's Marker (think those big red pens) and some paper and make teaching and lecture notes. You learn a bit of teaching from this and don't need a class.
Maybe this will spark someone's imagination and creativity into a good DR-oriented idea?

I love the idea of a notebook or textbook as well. They could work a little bit like current textbooks in that you could make one for beginners, one for dilettantes, another for adepts...and so on. You would need not only enough of the actual skill to write the textbook, but you would need enough teaching to match it and make it work. Making one could be a slightly longer-term and maybe a complicated project (perhaps incorporating other lore skills like artistry to provide positive modifiers if you so choose) that taught teaching very well, and a little bit of the subject you're writing about. A student studying one could lock that subject a few times using one textbook until the book wore out and became unusable.

Whoa, talk about deja vu. Is this the same as the similar threads you had the guild GMs collect submissions for or are you going in a different direction with this one?

Same .. I wanted guild specific focus from the guild folders. This is general feedback.

- Wisdom should be very important in teaching, if not the most.
- I really like the old idea of going to an academy (Asemath, Izma Ru'ef, Gealeranendae, etc) and teaching classes for money, building a career as a professor.
- No specific idea here, but I'd like to see the preach verb moved to the teaching system with some appropriate ability, instead of just being a devotional recite. It would be nice if preaching became the preferred method of learning teaching for clerics and they could be found preaching sermons in holy places, even if they can't write actual spiffy ones themselves.

This has been discussed in Plat several times, as well as Prime.
Among the suggestions thrown out:
1)Create texts and treatises. At one time it was considered too resource intensive, but is there a way to make it less so, similar to scribing sigils is for moon mages?
2)Permit Lecturing in the assorted auditoriums and academies around the Realms. We have lecture halls, so let us have a reason to use them!
3) I suggested a sort of apprenticeship to help with teaching for traders on the routes. But is there a way to implement such an arrangement for other guilds as well?
Anyway, there you go!

problem you get with lecture halls is the same issue you have with pickable doors.

Not if there is a timer and a time limitation after which the staff bustles you out so they can clean the room. And then if you try to go back in too soon, the dear house mistress says something like, "You poor dear, you look SO tired! Why don't you go have a nice cup of taffelberry tea and some tarts?" ;)

It's a lot less of a problem when there are more than two in the whole world; I can think of six rooms which are explicitly described as instructional facilities just off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are more that I haven't seen.
Also, unlike lockpicking doors, we are assuming that this is a system that the Powers That Be will actually want people to use; if the existing facilities prove inadequate, I wouldn't mind seeing a few of the rooms in subtext opened up in the existing institutions, and possibly some new schools built in areas that don't currently have them.

>>Lecture halls
Could have it such that the Academy hires you for a certain number of classes a week based on your teaching ranks (a week being 1 real life day). That way you don't have people sitting there all day lecturing. Under 100 ranks, you could teach once, and then get "You realize that you have no more classes scheduled for today." So on with increasing ranks.
You also could be paid based on the number (and possibly quality) of your classes.

Perhaps the ability to demonstrate a point at certain intervals while teaching. While teaching weapons, there comes the perfect opportunity to show the best way to gut a Gor'Tog, or may be when teaching magic the teacher summons a shard of flame and manipulates it to demonstrate excellent mana control.
The demonstration can provide a temporary boost to teaching, scholarship, and perhaps the skill being taught for the teacher, while the student temporarily has their learning bonused and may be a slight boost to the skill on a timer, reflecting the student going out and putting the freshly demonstrated knowledge to use.
