The carved ironwood staff from the corn maze is showing that it still has an empty bezel but won't accept a runestone. This particular staff is upgraded to 8 bezels. Not sure if the same bug exists for the last empty bezel at 4, 6 and 10 rune unlocks.
>study staff
An carved ironwood staff has 8 metal bezels mounted along the top and sides, all of which hold softly glowing stones. Currently the staff holds the following runestones:
1: a sunstone stone (mounted atop the staff)
2: a sunstone stone
3: an erythrite stone
4: a quartz stone
5: an elbaite stone
6: an elbaite stone
7: an imnera stone
8: an empty bezel
You can use the following verbs with the staff:
TURN change which rune is active
PUT put a runestone in an empty bezel on the staff
PULL get the runestone on top of the staff off
INVOKE activate the runestone on top of the staff
>glance
You glance down to see an carved ironwood staff topped by a twisted sunstone stone in your right hand and a quartz runestone marked with a symbol for Refresh in your left hand.
>put my runestone in my staff
There's no room to add another rune to the staff. You'll have to remove one first.
Bugged ingame.

That is not how the enruned bone staff (which I assume this is a copy of) works, You can't turn that one to en empty bezel.
>>> get staff
You get an enruned bone staff topped by a perfect asketine stone
>>> look staff
An enruned bone staff has 10 metal bezels mounted along the top and sides, 5 of which hold softly glowing stones. Currently the staff holds the following runestones:
1: a topaz stone
2: a selenite stone
3: an imnera stone
4: a sraeth stone
5: an empty bezel
6: an asketine stone (mounted atop the staff)
7: an empty bezel
8: an empty bezel
9: an empty bezel
10: an empty bezel
>> > put rune on staff
You find an empty bezel on your bone staff and slip a elbaite runestone into it, carefully securing the metal retaining ring. The runestone seems to soften and flow slightly as you do, losing its original shape as it settles into place.

There appears to have been an issue with how they were set up. New ones picked up won't have this issue, but if you picked one up before this post, you will need to ASSIST and speak to a GM to have yours fixed.
