Are we not allowed to DUMP the contents of critter boxes?

When I try to dump things onto the ground, I get this:

"You think it would be better to empty a plain wooden trunk out by hand."

When I try to dump the contents of my strongbox into a bag with enough space, I get this message:

"You open the deobar strongbox...

In the deobar strongbox you see a huge orange-red sunstone.

The darkly gleaming beauty of the city's bank stands out even at night, its polished facade engraved with the image of Kertigen. Although the doors are shut and the lights mostly extinguished, the sound of movement from the patrol that prowls the bank's grounds can still be heard making their rounds. The three-story office of the Provincial Administrator of Orders watches over the lonely street. You also see a Shard sentinel, a large sign, a news stand with a parchment scroll on it and a sly-eyed Elothean newsman.

I think dragging open boxes causing them to break is determined by your burden or the amount of stuff in the box or something along those lines.

Either way dismantle x2 is way better.
