I just died, again. This time I noticed a message I'm not familiar with right before I returned to life:
--
... Do not squander their gift." With a swift movement of his hand you suddenly feel yourself pulled back to the land of the living.
A black, chilling hand reaches toward you but is pushed back by nothing you can discern other than a warm breath.
You shake off the fear and the pain, and find youself alive...and elsewhere.
--
I don't recall ever seeing that middle line, but I'm not sure I've paid enough attention to death messaging in the past couple years. Usually I'm too annoyed to do much careful reading.
Is this new? Newish? Not at all new? Or is Kodius finally trying to wipe me out?

there's definately a new part in the middle.
care sharing whom you have favor with? the death messages of coming back seem to vary according to which god/goddess now.

Nothing but Everild for the last 50+ favors.
I wonder if it's related to the fact I was low on them.

Looks like it might be based on deity of last favor. I started a list on the talk page of the depart command on elanthipedia. Be nice to see how the data fleshes out to see how it's based.

Re: Odd Message on 12/11/2010 12:59 PM CST
This is something somewhat new...
Last time Barn died with a depart was 2009. He's only ever had Kuniyo favors. Checked him and another alt with only Prydaen favors:
You walk forward, putting one foot in front of the other, wandering closer to something which never seems nearer. Time, space and distance have no meaning in this place, leaving you feeling nothing but a strange peace tempered by a prickly feeling that your destiny is not yet finished.
After what seems an eternity, you reach a gate. Before you stands a stoney-faced being who gives you a hard look before saying, "Were it not for the love of Truffenyi, your soul would be lost to the Void. Do not squander his gift." With a swift movement of his hand you suddenly feel yourself pulled back to the land of the living.
You feel a burst of pain as you gasp in a deep breath! All around you the world spins rapidly and you get the feeling you are falling from a great distance. After a moment, the spinning stops and you realize with joy that you are alive...
Maybe something that changed with the necromancer release?

perhaps it is location based, or number of favors based? the ones on the website though seemed keyed into those specific dieties though <damaris, elyhaar, asketi>. the one pete posted though, seems generic to those who have had 6 departs or less total over the course of their characters life.

I just changed the collection of messages into a table that includes all of those factors. Looks like location may be the winner. Be nice to see how it fleshes out if we can get a few different locations cataloged to test.

no, the aspect to the rp messages for the different departs depending on which gods, number of favors, etc. It adds an extra layer of depth.

Roughly what Gerstein posted.
It might not be known how the mechanics work, but it adds flavor to the game.
In fact not knowing exactly what the mechanics are might make it better for me.

That would make sense... Only 4 departs with 19 deaths.
