The map has a large 'X' marked in the middle of it. Near the marking, you can see a sketch of the opening of a cavern. Contour lines drawn along the map indicate that the destination is located near sea level, and a drawing of two farm plots surrounds the 'X'. Straight lines have been drawn from the center, pointing east, southwest, and northwest. From other markings on the map, you guess that the destination is somewhere nearby. Judging by your surrounding environment, you will find the treasure in this province.
It says it is west of Rossmans, NW of Lang, nearby in Marauders, southeast of Fornsted and Hvaral. Problem is I have studied in every room on marauders map. Tried in the geni maze but no luck. anyone have any ideas?
Re: Map help? on 07/12/2012 07:03 AM CDT
The only thing I could suggest short of actually looking for it with you would be to go to one of the locations that gives you a direction (For example go to Lang where it tells you it's NW) and type WHERE NW. If you're lucky you'll get a list of locations considered NW of there. Might be someplace you haven't considered yet, maybe.

Checked its NW of there. Its only nearby in the map area for maurauders. South if you go toward fornstad, north from rossmans, se from muspari and oasis, west from there. North of rakash village. This map is obnoxious.

Isn't that geni area an estate holder zone? Estate areas can't be map locations.
You might want to explore more. Some areas aren't always appearing to be in the right "direction", while two nearby locations might be separated by one that isn't listed as nearby.

Did you try checking the road to the Rakash village? I'm not familiar with the area, but I seem to remember finding a cavern there.

There is an E, NE, SW room in the water part of fendryads/elsraels...fits the sea level part, but not sure about the whole cavern & farm thing:
http://www.kythsjournal.com/maps/map08.htm
On that same map, off the Sun Vulture area is the lair (where you have to kneel to enter), that has the right room directions, would fit the cavern and possibly the farms, not sure about the sea level part.
Does seem like a particularly evil map, good luck treasure hunting for it!

This map is the biggest pain ever. It is only nearby in marauder map area. No rooms match that. I have studied it in every room mapped on raniks and g3 automapper. No luck. Anyone know if there is some kind of super sekret srs room in that map I dont know about or something? Starting to just get fed up with it
Re: Map help? on 07/21/2012 03:23 PM CDT
Did you assist to have a GM check the location is reachable by you? There have been occasions when they were not pointing to a reachable location, and the Staff moved the location it referred to somewhere that could be reached. Considering how long you've been working at this, I don't think a GH or GM would mind at least looking at it to confirm it's not the map, and not just you failing to find some remote unmapped region in Ker'leor.

Re: Map help? on 07/21/2012 06:37 PM CDT
I did. Was one of the first places I checked because the direction exit are perfect. As soon as you climb path out of the marauders towards seordmaors it is south, if you are on the NTR outside theren gate it is west, you go wall and it is nearby. Unless theres some bleed over in zone map it can only be in the maurauders area http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/RanikMap43
But I have studied it in every room.. nd I mean every room on the map a few times now. no results.

Woohooo got some carved ivory fangs. I am just done with maps now. why dont they just start putting the same garbage they put in the paper wrapped packages in the boxes. good job screwing up a system that was fun when it started but now just puts whatever in the treasure simu. I'll just sell my maps or feed them to gelapod from now on
Re: Map help? on 07/21/2012 09:17 PM CDT
It helps to assume maps have raffle-grade items with the rare chance of something auction grade than expecting always auction/quest grade.

I dont expect game changing out of the box. But fangs? a belt worn sack that wont even hold a box? a waxy paper bag with carrot muffins in it? i did get a full pirate outfit in a ship captains chest which was neat and i sold for profit. and got a unique sundress that still have on a mule somewhere. I just think that even if something is unique but not higher functioning it would be cool. to find a set of fangs you can buy off a traders table for a few plat is just laziness or brokeness.

Unless someone just accidentally made an item with the same name as another item...

That said, there are a lot of items in the treasure system that are either really old or variations on festival shop items.
Others are more unique. Like good old robotic thumb-worshipers: http://elanthipedia.org/w/index.php/Item:Small_mechanical_cleric

Well what about putting "Treasure System" as a source for the item? What does that require? Just setting up a page for it?
That way any search of the item database would pull those items as results.

It would require a rewrite of all the item templates, forms, and queries. I'm thinking about how best to do it.

If "treasure system" could be added as a tag like cleric only, cambrinth, etc, I'd gladly go through and set up all the items I already entered into epedia.
I know there's a "rare" tag, too, that I think is meant to be used for auction items and the like, but it wasn't formally introduced into the template form just yet.

Yeah, I'm saying this strictly from a user standpoint. I know retroactive changes can be a nightmare from a dev standpoint.

>>This may be a stupid question, but what's wrong with just creating a page of crap?
The amount of work it takes to archive things in the long term versus the amount of work it takes to adjust the templates in the short term.
I can't speak for the amount of work that has to be done on the form templates, but if that requires manually updating three (random number) template pages, and that results in not having to manually update two pages each time you create a new map prize entry and include it to the "prizes found via maps" page, doing the former could be a much better time investment than doing the latter.
As a comparison, it's like setting up a website to use a Content Management System (CMS). It's a lot more work to set up a CMS in the beginning than just toss stuff on your website manually. So, if you're just posting something like "this is my name, this is my resume, contact me for job openings," then setting up a CMS to manage it is a poor time investment. But if you're going to be adding a new something or other each week, then making a section where you write articles relating to your profession, etc, then a CMS might be a good initial time investment, in order to avoid having to do so much hand coding in the long run.
