Hey in my continuing effort to understand the game mechs after a considerable absence...I was wondering how effective certain stats were anymore.

The reason I ask is because I've read a few snippets on how charisma is now a worthwhile skill for non-traders, and it playing an ever increasing role in spell casting...back in the day all I was told was Discipline is key, as a result I have a high disc but a charisma about 13 levels lower. Could someone explain this impact?

Charisma is used in all the SvStat contests, equating to the mortar in a brick-wall analogy.

Wall = total resistance
Brick = effect on resistence
Mortar = additional effect on resistence (but by itself makes a very crappy wall)

Well thank you, that does help.

So in a more general question, what stats should I focus on upgrading...seems like I should try to balance out Charisma. I'm a moonie btw.

Strength : 23 Reflex : 20
Agility : 19 Charisma : 16
Discipline : 29 Wisdom : 27
Intelligence : 27 Stamina : 19
Favors: 4
Concentration: 146 Max: 146

Your race is pretty important also. I'd probably let charisma go for now, it isn't too far behind. Discipline is the most important magic stat overall. If you're in combat you might want to train agility/reflex. I'm always a fan of mentals. It really depends on what your goals are. Here are my gnome moon mage's stats:

Strength : 20 Reflex : 83
Agility : 50 Charisma : 35
Discipline : 99 Wisdom : 99
Intelligence : 99 Stamina : 30

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'm an Elothean. Yeah I find myself in combat I would say every now and then. A lot right now as I'm backtraining several skills.

Personally I'd do reflexes to take advantage of your training bonus, but it really depends on what you feel like you're lacking the most.

And FYI, charisma won't make spells easier to cast, but it will make some spells more powerful. The effect is pretty subtle though.

Curious, but how fast do you gain ranks in tertiary skills with that setup? Primary skills? Can you minimum prep MB anyone into last week?

Copernicus' minimum prep of MB has been known to auto-reroll some newbie characters.

Slower than someone with half my mentals who is secondary.

>Primary skills?

Hard to say.

My mentals have helped me catch up in certain skills to people who have been playing much longer. However, when I talk to people I often find that the skills I catch up on are the ones they are neglecting. For serious training, keeping skills near mind lock is much more important than having high mentals.

No, but I can MB pretty much any non-barbarian/moon mage.

I should add that I can min-prep MB celpeze to sleep most of the time (even though they have some mana draining MR/resistance), which makes the spell worthless for training. If I ever train charisma I might be able to take out the barbarians too.
