Greets friends and followers,
A few posts in the B/GD folder got me to thinking on a couple new ideas for meditations. Additionally, I'll re-hash one of my previous ides.
Name- Meditate Body
Action- Maulem's eyes close as he uses his Barbarian training in an attempt to control his body's functions in an aid to healing.
Upside- Slows bleeders
Downside- Must be sitting. Modest rt. Hit to evasion.
Name 2- Meditate Mind
Action- Maulem grows calm as he focuses his mind on a single point.
Upside- Helps clear mindstate to clear.
Downside- Must be sitting. Will remain in meditation until mindstate reaches clear.
Name 3- Meditate Spirit
Action- Maulem's breathing slows as he concentrates intently.
Upside- Bonus to spirit recovery.
Downside- Must be sitting. Bonus ceases when too much movement is detected.
Name 4- Meditate <skill>
Action- Maulem's breathing slows as he focuses deeply on his training.
Upside- Gives small bonus to absorption of <skill> for a short time.
Downside- Must be sitting. This will be done out of combat to aid in clearing a skill down from ML (or other state) to a lower level.
The actions could use quite a bit of tweaking. As always, your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are welcome.

I like them overall, but it raises a question for me. Would they all be skills like roars and dances that you acquire as you circle, or would there be a new "Meditation" skill added that you gain experience in? The meditations would gain more power as your concentration stat and experience in the skill increase.
I think it would be interesting if "Inner Fire" was a pool that we could draw from as needed, kind of like mana pools for magic users. Unlike where mana is different from room to room, IF always stays the same wherever you go, and the pool increases as you gain experience in the meditation skill.
Instead of Power Perception, Barbarians would use a skill they acquire at second circle or summat... something like "Fire Check", just a quick meditation that takes a fair amount of RT.

I would probably leave the Barbarian guild if we gained active control over the Inner Fire pool. This is not something that is under our control, and never should be. Think about what it is, it's the inner force of the Barbarian, all of his feelings and emotions which drive him onwards. Dances and berserks have some control over it, but they do not have as much fine control over Inner Fire as spells have over the mana pool. Barbarians do not need to be mages with a different power pool.

Well, we DO kinda have active control over inner fire. Check fire using a flame/one of the super-de-duperly awesome cool chakral amulets. If fire is good (high/max), dance/berserk. If fire is low, kill stuff until fire is high. Repeat as needed. So much nicer than 'harness. oh no, low attunement. <wait wait wait> yay, attunement is back'

Don't get me wrong, I like IF the way it is now. I was just more or less thinking about a meditation that can be used that doesnt require a flame, or one of those bloody expensive Chakrals.
When meditating over a flame, or using the amulet, it gives quite a few level explanations as to exactly what your IF level is at. I think all Maulems ideas are good ones, and i just think it would be nice if there was also a quick meditation that can be used to tell about what your IF is. Leave the more definitive explanations to meditating over flame and using the amulet. But lets say if you...
>meditate Aerowen
when full:
- You feel your blood boiling.
when 3/4 full:
- You can hardly contain your energy.
when 1/2 full:
- You feel slightly tired.
when 1/4 full:
- For some reason, you dont feel as powerful as you normally do.
when pretty much empty:
- You feel numb, like a shell of your normal self.
Now of course, these are just examples. Nothing real definitive, just an approximation. It can be used in battle, say if you are dancing and you want to know about how much longer you can go for. The rt would be something modest, nothing extremely long, however it would take a decent amount of time as you still do need to be able to concentrate. Would also be prone to fail if you are being attacked by multiple enemies.
I know that i might be thrown to the ground and pummeled by some for even suggesting it, but hey, its just an idea. Unless everyone feels its pointless. Heh.

In the realms I asume that all the critters we hunt must have other predators other than all the races of the realms.
So how about
>meditate predator >>insert predator here<<
>your mind focuses on the form of the predator the attacks of
>generations of your kind run through your mind your soul aching
>for the taste of there blood
The idea being that by concentrating on a particular predator you get some combat bonuses over a particular prey critter at the expense of some penalties against all other critters.
Just an idea from a very small barb

Thanks everyone for the coherent replies here.
My ideas for these are generally along the ability lines as opposed to a skill-based set.
As far as the scripting comment, these would/could be used when you're out of the field getting the occasional tingly from your friendly neighborhood empath.
I don't think we should have greater control over our fire, however, I do think we should have easier ways to check it rather than buying a 50plat necklace or stoking up a stogie. Talk about a game balance issue...mages only have to type harness to find out the level of their mana instantly.
Good posts, gang. Keep it up. ::pokes Drex in the ribs::

See, but a Barbarian should know himself well enough to not need to check his inner fire every 5 seconds. I know approximately where I'm at after a dance or full power berserk. Good enough for me.
