Tried it myself and confirmed it doesn't have the effect even though the messaging indicates it is lighting stuff up.

It would be a big utility loss to lose this functionality.

I, too, lament the loss of this functionality. And the spell in general just does not pack the punch it used to. It seems like a poor shadow of its former self. Sad, indeed.

And while we're lamenting, I don't think I'll ever get over the divorcing of music skills from magic effectiveness. As a musician IRL, I got a kick out of the fact that my killer percussion skills made my Drums of the Snake so much more uber. Sure, I get the reasoning, but it REALLY changes the feel of the bard guild. What the heck does my 800+ ranks of performance get me now? Squat!

It's a musician thing.
