<<underwater breathing

That effect used to be part of the Merelew's Legacy spell which was rendered obsolete in 3.1 because of skill combination among other things. I wasn't aware that the underwater breathing effect got moved to Caress of the Sun, but it does make sense since the spell keeps water away from you. On land that means weather protection, but underwater it could mean a bubble of air forms around you and your group.

I think Mere used to just message once that it was pushing the water away from you when it was cast underwater, and didn't explicitly say you were surround by a pocket of air. The bubble may just be implied.
