So I've been thinking some about spells that we need. There's mostly just a few classes of spells I think our guild is sorely lacking on. Some of them we've had suggestions for, some I haven't really seen suggestions for. Suggestions welcome:
* AOE vs non-undead. I think we've had enough suggestions here, both between my previous suggestion for Winds of Asketi earlier this month in this folder, as well as Flames of Ushnish etc.
A caveat to this is that it must teach roughly as good (within 5-10%) as CL. Anything less is frankly not good enough. Said goal can be achieved through another spell, but I don't think that's likely given how TM experience is awarded.
* AOE crowd control. Stun, immobilize, whatever.
* Raise power or equivalent. Meraud's commune is honestly terrible at this, despite that being everyone's counter argument. The commune just doesn't really functionally allow you to take a mediocre room with no exits and turn it into a good room. It often barely, if at all, increases the power. Ethereal fissure is a resaonable thing to look at for ideas here.
* A way to disarm critters. I'm not talking make their weapons weaker like CoZ, get rid of them.
* A way to help deaders at long range. While Vigil is nice, you still have to have been in the same room as the person in order to help them. A way to vigil anyone within k-gweth range (minimum) who's dead would be useful here. In addition, a way to resurrect via vigil would be nice.
* An autonomous attack spell like ball lightning or starlight sphere. I realize people say these spells 'aren't very good' but I'd like the versatility plus in addition theoretically these will be getting better.
I had a few more but I forgot them :(

So glad to have someone raise this topic again. Its been awhile.
"* AOE vs non-undead. I think we've had enough suggestions here, both between my previous suggestion for Winds of Asketi earlier this month in this folder, as well as Flames of Ushnish etc.

Okay, figure its a given that it won't kill as good as CL, what I would like to see is something like an AOE divine radiance that also causes nerve damage. Basically like a Firulf's storm with the magic bolts unbalancing and also causing nerve damage. Wouldn't be good for killing, but would teach TM well and be a group debuffer- which is something I think we need.
"* AOE crowd control. Stun, immobilize, whatever."
See above- but yes this.
"* Raise power or equivalent. Meraud's commune is honestly terrible at this, despite that being everyone's counter argument. Again I agree. Meraud's commune is a fantastic commune for its side effects, not for raising mana. I would look to GOM for inspiration myself.
"* A way to disarm critters. I'm not talking make their weapons weaker like CoZ, get rid of them."
Again, I agree. This could be rolled into Malediction without overpowering it, or be part of some other spell.
"* A way to help deaders at long range. While Vigil is nice, you still have to have been in the same room as the person in order to help them. A way to vigil anyone within k-gweth range (minimum) who's dead would be useful here. In addition, a way to resurrect via vigil would be nice."
Agree completely.
"* An autonomous attack spell like ball lightning or starlight sphere. I realize people say these spells 'aren't very good' but I'd like the versatility plus in addition theoretically these will be getting better."
I agree again.
I also think we need general magic barrier spells as Armifer once mentioned. I would like to see a powerful barrier like Sheer that has some backlash affect on casters- this seems like a perfect 'meta-magic' type spell- and a weaker general barrier.
Thats something like 7 spells. Sure would give me something to look forward to for the next few years.

>Good list. Definitely need an anti-magic barrier spell like Shear/Soldier's Prayer/ES to go along with that meta-magic focus.
I agree regarding the focus thing. I don't really agree that a barrier spell is useful per se, but it's a spell I'd probably pick up. I feel it's less pressing than my previous ones which is why I didn't include it, but I definitely agree that in general we need one.

"As I stated before, I would opt for a barrier spell that transmutes incoming harmful magic into something beneficial to the Cleric as an effect of meta-magic focus as opposed to a harmful backlash (i.e. Shear). "
I understand your point, and don't completely disagree, but there are aspects backlash I like.

I think both are good. Beneficial would at least make it not a copy of Shear. Some ideas:
Beneficial: Gives the Cleric spirit or harness.
Backlash: Instead of the generic stun like Shear it causes the spell's effects on the caster (using the Clerics stats & skills where applicable).
To toot my own horn I also posted a Drogor-themed backlash barrier spell a while back (https://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=22&topic=14&message=3169) and some ideas for curses (https://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=22&topic=14&message=3171).
Idon's Theft as Armifer brainstormed (DB-style trigger) would be a good anti-magic spell as well, but it's more active than barrier, which is what's sorely lacking.

>>Despite the need for you all to feel insanely powerful, when we already pwn everything, I disagree with you. The only thing we need is ChS. That's it. Nothing else. Nada. Fin.
You just totally contradicted yourself there.
Isn't FoU supposed to be AoE v Living?
I would kill for a disarming spell right now. I'm bored to tears in bristles and I can't get past Raider's parry
