I am having some strange issues with Wound redirection and the Unity and Hodierna links. I am not sure if this is directly related to Empathic shock or a bug. I get the following message when I try to start a HoH link or Unity link with a patient:
"You strain, but your empathy is not sufficient to support the unity link right now."
I have a good bit of Empathy ranks and was able to perform all of the new links and redirection just fine yesterday. Wound redirection is inconsistent, sometimes it works, most times it doesn't (see below). I'll admit, I've been a bit careless with where I've been swinging my sword -- hitting a few non-constructs here and there -- so, I can't be sure if this is just a product of my empathy being dampened to the point where I cannot use the links and redirection anymore. I can, however, heal other's wounds by taking and cast all of my spells without any problem.
You strain, but your empathy is not sufficient to support the unity link right now.
>redirect all to tail
You strain, but are unable to manifest enough empathy to accomplish a redirection.
>redirect all to tail
You strain, but are unable to manifest enough empathy to accomplish a redirection.
>redirect all to tail
You are now redirecting all wounds and scars to your tail.
>redirect all to tail
You strain, but are unable to manifest enough empathy to accomplish a redirection.
Any thoughts?

How many ranks of empathy do you have? Do you currently have empathic shock? If so, were you shocked when these abilities were working the day before?
You feel your Heart Link with a mug of zombie's revenge fade away.

It takes nearly 400 hits to get to perma-shock if you constantly attack a non-construct or PC. Shock wears off at 1% per basically 4 hours of play if you aren't perma-shocked so an occasional hit here or there shouldn't cause significant dampening. You can take wounds up to the 99% shock level and heal your wounds even when perma-shocked.

If anything requires Empathy to use, your effective empathy ranks are almost always modified by your shock level.
It's not exactly a debuff (hence it does not show up in EXP mods), but it helps to think of that way, a bit. So shock can debuff your Empathy such that you lack the skill to use some applications of Empathy.
So in this case, it looks like your shock is modifying your Empathy down to where you can no longer use HoH or Unity.
You are on the edge of being unable to use redirect, but it's still hit and miss. Most (but not all) Empath systems have a small random factor, and that's what you're seeing with redirect. Sometimes the random bit is enough to bump you up to where you can use it, but sometimes not.
And yes, for those of you playing along at home, you can sort of, kind of use these facts to figure out approximately how shocked you are, percentage wise.

Yeah, taking a peek at your logs, it looks like you're accruing shock faster than the normal drain. Another way to see how bad it is is to see how much it's affected your range for perc health.

Are you willing/able to share more? My recollection of my notes is that I had to be under 30% before I consistently saw more than 1 room.

Well, it'll depend on how much Empathy you have and your shock level. But if you can normally sense six rooms, and you're down to only sensing things in the current room, you'll know that you're pretty close to permashock.
