Anyone done any extensive testing of our LINK ability and could offer insight?
Is the additional skill I can get from others solely dependent on me, and not them?
I linked with someone who had 50 First Aid and saw the exact same increase in skill as when I linked to someone with 264 First Aid.
For both independently, based on Roundtime for tending, I would garner I received a 3-4 rank increase. For each I got "somewhat wiser" messaging.
At the time, I had 41 First Aid.
Is this just my maximum 'bonus' for my skill right now?

There's a pretty big range in which the boost from linking can randomly fall, everything else being equal. Sounds like you just got an exceptionally good roll linking to the low FA player, and an exceptionally poor one when you linked to the high FA player.
I don't think any player knows precisely what factors determine how wide that range actually is.
