Does charisma help with anything other than shifting?

For the non-empath-specific stuff, it extends your autodepart timer (with 20-something Charisma Symphaena's sitting on 2 hours of dead-time now before she departs). In addition, it reduces the spirit hit from room effects and critter attacks that target it (ie, undead, the swamps, etc).

Doesn't help with healing or perceiving or anything like that?

Nope, or at least if it does it's a very small and possibly unnoticeable boost. Bedside manners are purely RP-based.

charisma helps for all kinds of things, shifting, better prices, spirit health, vs charisma spells, teaching, learning, manipulate.... all those off the top of my head

I haven't noticed any significant effects with 50 charisma. A GM told people at a 'con a few years ago that it was negligible. People in TF that do tests over much larger stat ranges in a shorter time say that it is not that big of an effect. Teaching scales so slowly anyway, it would have to be providing some pretty significant rank-per-point boost for it to be a 'big' effect.

You're saying that increasing from 49-50 had a negligible effect, right? Or are you saying that all that charisma taken together has very little effect?

I recall some basic testing done several years ago that very clearly showed that in the low- and mid-circle ranges, Charisma does have a big effect on teaching, and being a student. My own anecdotal impressions are that there's a big difference teaching someone with 37 charisma as opposed to 27, all else being equal (same guild, same race, similar circle).

Whether that increase in the effect remains significant as you get above 35-40 stat points, is a different question entirely.

What were those GM comments, Pure, do you remember?

I don't think raising it from 30 to 50 made me that much better of a teacher. Villya told me about the 'con comments and sent me a bunch of postings about it from the TF board, but I don't have access to them.

You know me though, i'm anti-charisma aside from reducing fines.

Does this stat matter at all to empaths?

Charisma is the stat which powers an Empath's best defense: finding a high-level spouse of another guild =P.

On a more serious note, charisma affects shifting options and the strength of your Guardian Spirit.

Moderate modifier on the strength of your Guardian Spirit. Minor modifier on shifting capability. Minor modifier on teaching effectiveness.

Beyond that, not much empath specific, but it does a bunch of other decent stuff. You're not going to change your life by training it a lot, but I wouldn't let it fall completely behind.

I'm fairly certain that Charisma also helps with the Innocence contest.

Manipulate. Not as important as, say, Empathy.

It's also going to gain more importance for us when non-damaging TM/shock 2.0 appear and we start getting more and more into PVP.

In my experience it's more than a minor modifier for teaching, although perhaps a lot of that effect is second-person. Your charisma might not have a huge effect on the teaching exp you get when teaching, but you will learn very well teaching a student who has high charisma. It's reasonable to assume that the reverse is true, that your charisma affects how well your students learn, but I can't recall any recent testing on that point.

Charisma also directly determines your spirit strength and thus the depart timer, so if you die a lot it's important. That's true for every guild.
