I just had a recent experience in which I was healing deaders in the cleric guild. This was during an invasion in which the room was heavy in activity so I had a hard time keeping up with which limbs to cast at and what wounds I was taking. By the time I figured out my own status my BS was through and my vitality was dropping fast. I had gushing bleeders which I was about to heal away when someone started to tend me--only down to severe. The roundtime interfered with my timing to cast and so I ended up dead soon after the RT ended.

I know I can avoid this by changing demeanor to cold but I like my character to play warm to everyone. Is there a command that I dont know of that can avoid tending? Can we complie a big list of etiquette we can throw out to everyone about tending or just etiquette in the cleric and empath guilds in general? This tends to happen without people asking if they could tend me, near death or not. It's pretty rude and very frustrating when I'm trying to cast.

Any thoughts? Advice?

Stand. I know sometimes you fall over while healing, and it's easier to just sit up - but, them's the breaks. You might try kneeling, as well though. Always thought you had to be sitting or laying down to be tended - so try standing or kneeling.

Someone tended me once as soon as I fell over while healing and gave me a nice 30+ second roundtime. I was tremendously pissed because I nearly bled to death since I couldn't break my links and couldn't do anything about the multiple severe+ bleeders.

As much as you may not like it, while healing in those situations, your best bet would be to set your demeanor to reserved.

Besides, you aren't really going to be that hugglysmoochy while bleeding from multiple orifices and handling corpse after corpse. I would think a good Empath would focus on efficiency, and reserved gives that impression.

You can also try telling people "Please do not tend me now, it's too dangerous." if you didn't say anything. It's only politeness for them to listen to you. It could be that people are so new now they don't realize the dangers of trying to tend someone who is healing. In scroll like that, I'd probably do a whisper directly to the person(s) tending that they have no business tending in a triage situation, that way they have absolutely no excuse to keep tending you or anyone else who is healing.

Personally I like the idea of an avoid tend. I've had similiar situations but unlike many I'll sit there and scream at whoever the idiot was who thought they were being 'helpful' by giving me a 50 second RT. Then I'll ask any of the other empaths in the guild to keep an eye on my vitality. If the person tend you again curse, shun, or thump him. Or if you're big enough sleep his arse and drag him out. I think someone tending you after you've made a big deal about it once should be consent.

I like the idea of an AVOID option...I've had a few people that try to help me, and don't notice how severe the bleeder is. Fortunately, I always have staunching up whenever I'm healing...so it usually is not a problem. But I have had some incredibly established characters in their guild tend me without knowing their limits and thinking they are helping, only to give me a 20+ second rt. It doesn't make me love them less... <grin>

> tend Raudhan

Raudhan glances at you as you attempt to tend her wound. Maybe not the best idea?

So can tending someone be consent?

I think if you have made it clear that what they are doing is endangering you and you don't want them to do it again and then they do it anyways after you have said, "Tend me again and I'll kill you." Yes, I think it should be consent. Is it? I'm not sure.

I didn't mean consent from a harassment point of view but consent from causing death, albeit unintentional.

lol, yeah...I can see it. Some fluffy-puff dies from someone with horrible FA tending them that sends them into RT. "OMG! I'm going to beat you to death with my pillow!!!"

I doubt it could be consent for causing a death as it was an unintentional thing, which only makes the idea of AVOID tend a better thing. I'm sure now that the thought has been posted though some snert will read this and start tending everyone in sight causing their deaths which in that case might be considered mech abuse. I'm kind of leaning back and forth on this one. I doubt that if it happened once and someone decided to do something about it that they would side with the death victim. However, I believe it should be consent since there is potential for abuse.

You have an AVOID. It's called DEMEANOR RESERVED or DEMEANOR COLD. You can absolutely choose not to use it, it is your choice.

Or you can do as someone else said and STAND. I do believe KNEEL works too.

They're HORRIBLE replacements for the old avoid kiss, avoid hug, etc. Your befriend list is limited to a whole 10 people. I'd like the demeanor system kept and the old avoids brought back. It's dumb that I am forced to keep a low demeanor to avoid verb abuse.

Well, I am of the opinion that demeanor should be reserved strictly for fluff verbs and not for ones like touch, tend, etc. But the GMs have expressed no interest in changing things...so you are pretty much stuck with what is currently available.

Not sure if twice with a warning between fulfills that condition but it'd be fairly pointless regardless unless you were bonded.

Huh, I always thought that kneeling prevented being tended. Did that change recently?

And if you clearly warn someone not to do something to you that you do not desire, no matter what it is, and you state the consequences if they persist, but they still continue to do it, that is textbook consent.

I've killed someone on my non empath characters by tending them thinking I was on my empath character. Best advice for you Nandae is to cast BS before you heal. Thus, no problem if someone tends you because you're not bleeding

Concur with the BS thing.

Of course this still leaves the problem of not being able to break links in RT, which means if someone who really sucks tends you, you could end up overhealing.

I also have a feeling BS is buggy...but...well, we've been down that road :)

agreed, overhealing sucks. Evaluate wounds, then heal... especially on dead bodies. They're in no hurry anyway

Yes, I always cast BS but in that particular case it had worn off just then. Being caught up with trying to heal myself before noticing I was stuck in super long RT, I wasn't able to yell "STOP TENDING ME" sooner than I had. Anyhow, the fact of the matter is that sometimes these unfortunate unwanted long RTs happen. I appreciate all the response and I'm glad I brought up the issue. I'm hoping other empaths out there will be wary and others will know better than to tend uninvited.

and I still like the idea of AVOID tend. ;)

I'm not sure if I do. I mean, the empath who agrees to help me could zone out in the middle of helping me. If he or she's in danger of dying, I don't really want that weighing down my conscience. I mean, I was paying attention and could've helped save him or her...

Not your job to make up for the potential incompetence of others.

And just because someone is gushing from every orifices doesn't mean they're in trouble. Of course, you should know this :P
