Talking to a few Guild members today and none of us can remember the reason why we have to link to teach empathy. Anyone able to give a definitive answer?

Unlike magic, Empathy doesn't have a cross-guild analog allowing for the discussion of abstract concepts.
However, much of the reason it requires a link merely has to do with OOC issues like wanting to impose a modicum of social interaction.
