My empath recently advanced to 21st circle and I was taught about taking disease from the guild leader.

I have 108 empathy, 21 stamina, and 18 discipline.

It seems to take a very long time to get disease... gangrene is what I tried. It's been about 15 min and I haven't gotten the disease all the way yet. What factors affect how quickly I can take the entire disease? And what kind of skills/stats do I need to get it?

Empathy.

If you have GOL, use it. It increases the speed at which you take it noticably.

Ok, here's what I've learned about taking disease...

I'm sure GOL works, but I don't have the spell, so I can't tell you.

I was told that Heart Link works well to speed the process as well, and that's what I use. It seems to cut the transfer time in half.

If you type "take (patient) disease" and then "take (patient) infection", you transfer it twice as quickly.

These two things should make it possible to fully transfer the disease in one quarter the time. I usually finish with a diseased patient in about 5 minutes.

Not to get anyone in trouble, and I'm all for speed healing (used to multi take <patient> <wound> before I realized it was a bug and thus abuse) but is take patient disease and then take patient infection, with both of them transfering seperately (and thus at double the speed) a bug and thus abuse? Or shall I use it to the fullest extent possible?

I posted here...I used BUG in game about it...And nobody responded when I asked if it was even a bug, or if using it was considered abuse.

I assume it is indeed a bug, but I doubt anybody would get busted for using it. Plenty people do. Myself included.

It's probably just something that wasn't worth fixing since all the code is going to get a second look and I get the impression most of the health/healing code is going to get majorly rewritten.

Healing systems are definitely on the board of Big Review. A lot of things will be looked at during that time.

I just returned from a long rest and I see how taking gangrene is a pain..it shouldn't take long if you get all the wounds from the person. Not as long as the person still have wounds that is.

I too have many bodies playing and my Empath is my favorite. I guess what im getting to is have a look at how gangrene is really working please.

I think gangrene is working perfectly. It keeps non-empaths from learning tons of FA through pet bleeders (thus encouraging them to come to Empaths for FA lessons more often) and since it's tough for low-to-mid circle Empaths to take in a reasonable time it actually creates (along with box disease traps and general plagues) a need for higher level Empaths in day to day healing.

There certainly isn't much else in the game that does that.

I think gangrene and other diseases need more realistic ways of being prevented and even sort of treated by non-empaths.

Hopefully this will come with the new healing system.

Hopefully with the alchemy career we will be able to make cures.

I think first aid should be able to be used to treat and/or slow disease and poison.

I dunno about that one, Ythik. First aid is pretty much exactly what the skill says it is right now. Bandaging wounds, stopping bleeding, and treating the physical consequence of injury without healing the wound itself. Gangrene and infection are causes, not consequences (even though you can catch an infection in Elanthia as a consequence of bleeding, it then becomes a source of potential further injury). It makes sense that treating disease would require a spell or potion of some kind.

The same way there are real life methods that can be used to aid a poisoned or diseased person without using magic (or even full medical supplies), there should be methods that allow people to reduce the effects of poison and disease without having to resort to full healing.

Putting a tourniquet on a poisoned limb, trying to suck the poison out of the wound. There are non-magical methods that can be used to treat and/or slow poison.

Likewise, washing an infected wound with clean water springs to mind as just one method a person might use to reduce or remove infection.

I think there are equally applicable methods for most diseases.

And can we please make a pulp or something that will absorb or neutralize acid? This has probably been said many times.

Yep, poultices or draining a wound of pus..

At the very least a way for people to use First Aid to LESSEN or SLOW DOWN an infection.

I'm hoping with changes to the healing systems that there will be variances to infections and diseases. Such as - not every infection being gangrene. So..perhaps a person could have a wound on a certain body part.

Bob has deep cuts on his left leg.

His left leg gets infected.

Now he has some abscessed deep cuts on his left leg.

If left to worsen the abscess can progress, becoming larger, deeper, oozing..etc..

Bob has some painfully abscessed deep cuts on his left leg.

If not taken care of eventually the limb CAN become gangrenous.

If the abscess is treated somehow, the infection won't just disappear, but it could be stabilized to a point where it automatically leap to being fatal. Obviously, the level of lowered infection would have to be maintained. It couldn't be just drained once and sit around forever more.

Also, with this being looked at..the infection system could grow to make more sense.

An infection on the head or torso has a probability of becoming fatal MUCH sooner.

So, there could be this way for people to use First Aid to take care of their infections.

Now, on the alchemical side of things..

There could be very easy to make poultices to pack the wound with to maintain the lowered level of infection.

Any salves, ointments, or potions used to heal an infection completely would require a decent knowledge of alchemy.

I really do think that there should be a way using FA that would care for infections. While I am certainly looking forward to the development of medicinal alchemy, I am hoping that wound care through FA won't go overlooked.

The reason I think that there should be a way to lessen or slow down an infection is because sometimes infections can progress and kill very suddenly. The wounds won't be that bad at all..but you'll get that oozing message and you'll die. Or, the fact that apparently every "infection" in the game is listed as gangrene (interesting when gangrene isn't the infection itself but a condition caused by an infection (wet gangrene)).

Now, certainly I think that there should be SOME dangerous infections and many infections that grow to BE dangerous/fatal.

So..let me see what I can think of..

Wound Infection 1 - abscesses > growth of abscesses > wet gangrene due to infection cutting of blood supply (Can progress to fatality) (Can progress to blood infection)

Wound Infection 2 - Tetanus > headache/spasm of affected muscle - jaw - face > painful spasms of abdomen - legs - arms - neck > increasingly violent convulsions (convulsions can cause damage to the body)

Blood Infections - loss of balance/fatigue/high fever/chills/nausea & vomiting/confusion (High and quick fatality) End stage of blood infection - Septic Shock (confusion/unconsciousness/rapid heartbeat)

Anyway..just some random stuff..
