I have been a fan of the big blade and big mattock for a long time - fast and gory kills and all that. Recently, however, I have taken to using the throwing blades you can buy at the survival shop in Shard: 5 blades, thrown all at once, and preferrably off hand while you are holding a shadowy quarter staff in your right hand. Stand there darkly cloaked and with a shaped moonblade shaft and then flip 5 blades at once out of your left sleeve! It is soooo cool to watch five devastating hits land on a critter from a single toss. And the subtlety of it all seems so moonie. I commend that weapon to any of you.
On the other hand, a big blade can double as a pole for your pup tent when traveling far from an inn, so pick as you prefer.

I think, though am not sure since I had more than this skill when blades came into being, that at about 100 ranks of LT you start throwing multiple blades automatically, just by THROW <CRITTER>. As your skill in LT increases, the number of blades does go up, but the RT does not seem to.

Correct.
>As your skill in LT increases, the number of blades does go up, but the RT does not seem to.
The RT is dependent on how many blades you throw, one second per blade.

>>How could you MB/dazzle a warmie who had AC up?<<
AC provides defense against TM. Neither dazzle nor MB are TM spells. Having had a 150th warmie, I've been stunned/slept before and as long as the AC held, TM spells weren't really an option. I understand things are a bit changed now, but I'm fairly certain AC won't affect dazzle or MB.
What JLo said is pretty much spot on.

"Assuming that at some point you will have the strength to fling HT at min, is there really any benefit to LT over HT?"
Yes. 1 sec RT. HT bottoms out at 3ish
Also, apparently, throwing blades. The skill required for them to be cool is insane, unless I just suck. 400 weapons isn't an easy feat for MMs
One last thing. Min RT for the best HT isn't a joke. The fest axes that app Poor/Heavy/moderate are 75 stones. Thats a lot of agility and strength. And indirectly, Stamina.

Ya, my moonie will not be training HT under any circumstances. Currently 95th circle with 67 in intel, wisdom, and discipline, but only 25 in agility and stamina, 30 in reflex. Not sure what weapons I'm going to train yet, but LT is getting some consideration, as is LX, and 2HE.

I LOVE my HT but it's an investment.
I use the 50 stone heavy impact hammers from the recent fest. I'm working my way up to the axes, but it'll be a while.
If you're considering LT I've got a bunch of those mallets I'm willing to sell for highly inflated prices.

"Fortunately you can get heavy puncture on a spear at 40 stones. 35 effective strength isn't too bad, but still a commitment."
The spears are good. Puncture is my least favorite damage type though, so I got for 10 stones more on the hammers that have Heavy impact (my fave damage type) that don't lodge.
It's the Heavy/Moderate that makes the axes an amazing weapon. It's like throwing a HT and a (good) LT at the same time.

Re: Throwing blades are so Moonie on 12/16/2008 02:36 PM CST
Yeah, a problem with HT (in addition to the increased throwing time these last few years - ah for the days of rapid fire, one second spear shots) is that occasionally the point sticks into some bone that is too big to shatter and it lodges there, so I have to take out another spear, or two or three, to finish the job. That is not a particular problem for my pack, but some packs are less wide and long. In addition, I suppose a few hundred stones do add up to a bit of burden for some mages. I am not aware of an bandoliers that magically reduce the weight of HTs, as they do for LTs. Personally, I trained HT up long ago and loved it, but in my old age I am rediscovering LT and appreciating the new LTs that craftsmen have managed to get to us.
Non lodging LTs and HTs are certainly cool too, though. In fact, there is little not to love about weapons - well, ah, except for staff slings. I still have not found the groove for them.

HT would become more of a viable option for me personally with the introduction of nets (assuming nets will be HT and tangling bolas will be LT) but with my Strength and Stamina being hard to train I would just tucker myself out before long. I can throw the throwing blades all day.

There is always the advantage of carrying 3 or so loaded x-bows on your person for pvp...7/8 rt is excessive, especially compared to LB dominance but atleast you can use a shield.
HX on the other hand...I couldn't see myself ever using it for more than an opening volley to be reloaded post-combat

They're a great weapon to shoot somone with if you have skill. I don't hate the x-bows killing power at all. Getting the skill through non class means is an exercise in Round time hell though.
