You gesture.
Your cambrinth armband emits a loud snap as it discharges its power to aid your spell.
Something about this area prevents your spell from completing.

Why?

Where in the empath guild were you? Could you cast other spells in that room?

From the messaging, it looks like you were in a no-violence area. A lot of spells that are supposed to help with regenerating mana aren't allowed in such rooms. For instances, war mages can't case Fissure.

Wh-? This has nothing to do with no-violence rooms. It's another ward entirely.

It has to be a recent change because I was casting Shadowling in the infirmary a week or two ago just fine.

One suggestion might be to go back to the room where you got that messaging and fill out a BUG report. They're really useful for GMs to track down problems with the game.

The same thing happens at the "hollow" in the Adan'f woods. Presumably it's caused by the same ward that keeps critters from wandering in. The bug may have been that the infirmary wasn't warded against critters prior to a week ago.

That sounds like a logical explanation behind it, but it's lame.
