Alright, I've consulted with as many people as I can and I've settled on using the Observatory in Crossing again. Sorry to those of you that wanted the Forum (I did too), but the dual problems of getting enough people to commit to coming so we can actually use the mechanics and how difficult and annoying it can be for some people to get to Throne make the Observatory the best choice.

The final date and time for the meeting will be Friday, April 11th at 8 EST. We'll be meeting one west of Kssarh's office, may God have mercy on us all. The meeting will start with a quick (5ish minute) rundown of the history of the Children and the Cabal and a summary of Kreich's visit to Shard. I'm hoping lots of people will show up to observe and participate in a debate on the ethics of a second Scouring. :D

The usual rules apply: the purpose of this meeting is to encourage and facilitate roleplay, so while you are there please do your best to remain In Character. That means no talking about "gods" or "pidgeons" as thinly veiled allusions to GMs and instant messaging programs. While the main focus of the meeting will be (hopefully) spirited debate, please try to be (semi)respectful and don't start fistfights with people while you're there. Leave the beatings to Kssarh.

Sorry for the late post, been busy lately with RL stuff.

The meeting went fairly well I thought, despite a few snags and some people showing up expecting something entirely different. The purpose was to get people there and talking about things and plenty of people showed up to do so. People young and old brought some great arguments so kudos to them, and no one even had to get their face smashed.

Sherella popped in near the end and displayed the valuable diplomatic skill of waffling for us. She agreed with the notion that Taramaine wouldn't send a Y'shai like that and that if it was indeed rogue it was a threat to the guild that would be dealt with one way or another.

This will probably be my last meeting for a long while if not indefinitely. We had a good run and I figure seven is an auspicious number to stop with. My thanks go to everyone that have made these meetings possible, from contributing information to logging the things for me to just showing up and trying to be positive for a change.

[Observatory, Third Level]
A twisted framework of oak timbers and brass machinery nearly fills the room. At its center, the tremendous tube of a weer crystal telescope slants upward at a slight angle toward the dome's center, splitting the air like a precarious steel pillar gone askew. A thick glass lens extends a small space beneath the scope's circular base. You also see a soft white fringed cloth with some stuff on it, a disagreeable Shadow Servant, a grumpy Shadow Servant, a large wooden sign and a small bubbling cauldron of viscous gloop.

Caelumia says, "Alright. Everyone settle down for just a moment. The purpose of this meeting is less a lecture this time, and more to discuss what the proper course of action should be given recent events."

Caelumia says, "I'll run through a brief history for those whose knowledge is lacking. The rest of you can twiddle your thumbs and stare politely at a wall or something."

Relica just arrived.

Caelumia says, "Several centuries ago, during the days of the Empire before our guild was formed, a group existed called the Saesordian Cabal. This was the same Cabal once lead by Tezirah herself before her untimely banishment, and then lead by a man named Heronyus Kalestraum."

Jynisis just arrived.

Caelumia says, "This group was dedicated to the darker side of lunar magic; shadows, illusions, and even sorcery. A schism occurred within this group due to this, and the sect we know now as the Progeny of Tezirah was born, devoted to discussion of theory but not practice of such arts."

Councillor Jappal just arrived.

Ghodbane just arrived.

Caelumia says, "But the Cabal continued, and as the then-new Celestial Compact struggled to be recognized as a legitimate guild, the Cabal's practices regarding lunar magic reflected...poorly."

Caelumia says, "It was decided that this threat to the fledgling group, the cabal of sorcerers and practitioners of unethical magic, should be Scoured."

Saet just arrived.

Stritan just arrived.

Caelumia says, "That is what they called it - the Scouring, lead by a person only known now as the Eye."

Caelumia says, "There was a great battle. Most of the people associated with the Cabal were killed, including Heronyus himself. They thought the problem was solved. Of course, we know now that wasn't so."

Caelumia says, "The Children of Kalestraum survive to this day and they remember what the founders of the guild did to them. They've done a great many terrible things and struck at us in many ways."

Caelumia says, "And that leads us to now."

Caelumia says, "The Y'shai Kreich has approached Guildleader Mortom and demanded his aid in what will more or less be the second Scouring."

Caelumia says, "And it's rather certain he'll approach each of the guildleaders in the same way."

Caelumia says, "Kreich does not act on actual orders from Throne City, or our Guildmaster Taramaine. He acts on what he calls unspoken wishes."

Eltrinel asks, "What was Guildleader Mortom's response to Kreich?"

Caelumia says, "He commanded Kreich to return to Throne City and said that anyone that called themselves a student of his would not take part."

Gallank loudly asks, "Why?"

Caelumia says, "Kreich does not act on orders. What he plans on doing is...dangerous in many ways."

Caelumia says, "The Y'shai for those unaware are creations. Former Moon Mages that undergo a process that costs them their very souls in return for power."

Quetocuin just arrived.

Caelumia says, "Most have their minds cauterized and bound to serve the will of the guild, but rogues have happened and are exceedingly dangerous."

Jappal says, "thats a very unnerving thought....rogues.....having...rogue thoughts"

Caelumia says, "So. We have a choice. Kreich will doubtlessly approach each guildleader, and seems willing to accept help from any who would offer it."

Caelumia says, "It's up to each student to decide whether they will condone mass murder in the name of the guild."

Terra asks, "Have there been any rumors or confirmations of Kreich contacting any of the other guildleaders?"

Caelumia says, "I've heard nothing as of yet. I think we would hear Master Kssarh yelling at the least if he came here."

Relica says, "I sense a long fall and a loud thump."

Coralin says, "Wouldn't surprise me if only contacted Mortom due to his Tezirite connections and their distaste for the Children."

Caelumia says, "The Y'shai are not to be trifled with."

Eltrinel asks, "Has Kreich... suggested..... he would become aggressive to Moon Mages that do not assist him?"

Caelumia says, "They sacrifice their souls for their abilities. Their cambrinth armor is fused permanently to their flesh. They have no need for food or sleep, and the armor increases their power by an incredible amount."

Caelumia says, "I do not think he would be kind to those that get in his way."

Marsais asks, "Has it been confirmed that the Y'shai is indeed a rogue acting alone?"

Caelumia says, "He admitted he acted on no orders - of course, this may be a lie. Mortom seemed of the opinion that he was indeed a rogue."
Caelumia says, "I do not believe Taramaine would be foolish enough to order a lone Y'shai to strike the Children."

Caelumia says, "This helps them more than it helps us."

Malzard says, "Yet the Grandmaster has tasked us to defend the Guild against those who would corrupt us."

Malzard says, "Teleologic Sorcery is the most corrupting influency to seep into our midst in some time."

Malzard says, "And they have brought it to us."

Jappal asks, "Have the Children..done anything in recent times..to warrent aggressive action?"

Terra says, "So, what of the mages who have learned such magics? Would they forsake that knowledge and stand with the guild, or stand with the Children."

Coralin says, "They've been fairly well behaved as of late."

Relica asks, "Where are these so called children located?"

Malzard says to Terra, "They have already made that choice."

Caelumia says, "I will point out."

Caelumia says, "The Children are aware that the Y'shai moves."

Glizten asks, "Yes, where are the Children located?"

Caelumia says, "And fortunately, at this point in time, they do not attribute it to the guild."

Coralin says to Relica, "The Children are located in a manor somewhere on the outskirts of Leth Deriel. Kalestraum's ancestral manor."

Terra says, "I believe near Leth Deriel, in a manor of sorts."

You say, "It depends what you consider recent, but they've taken several aggressive actions against this guild and the students."

Glizten says, "I think I know of the place"

Caelumia says to Glizten, "You likely do not. It's hidden by more powerful magic than anyone has thus far managed to penetrate."

Malzard says, "No, you think of Lasarhhtha's Manor."

Caelumia says, "This isn't the same manor as..yes."

Terra says, "Foul Bone Dancer.."

Glizten says, "Ah, ok"

Marsais asks, "Wasn't the Y'shai created using Sorcery? Or was that just rumor?"

Glizten says, "There is a morgue in the basement useful to moon mages as well as a book in the library"

Caelumia says, "A book called Arte of the Black Cockatrice."

Caelumia says, "Currently in possession of the Tezirites, if memory serves."

Coralin says, "The Crowthers have it."

Eltrinel asks, "Crowthers?"

Coralin says, "Erzebet Crowther, once Tezirite representative on the Moon Mage council."

Dricila just arrived.

Caelumia says to Eltrinel, "The family that leads the Progeny. Always women."

Eltrinel says, "Ahh.. thank you."

Coralin says, "Her daughter is Annisean, they reside in Shard."

Gallank loudly asks, "Do we know what the other Y'Shai plan to do?"

Rekletiva says, "They do not plan. They obey."

Galren asks, "So if these Y'Shai are supposedly soul dead... how has this one come about his current course of action? From what I've read the Y'Shai don't sound like the type to start giving their own orders. What has sparked this is Kreich?"

Caelumia says, "If Mortom is correct he has gone rogue and the guild has lost control of him."

Galren says, "Sounds like someone has been playing puppet master."

Coralin says, "He's been rogue for a while. He's the one that killed Tethia."

Caelumia says, "And he is acting on some delusion of his."

Jappal says, "He did say...unspoken wishes'"

Jappal says, "plural"

Jappal says, "can't be too many voices rattling around inside of the Y'shai head"

Caelumia says, "To underestimate the cunning and intelligence of a Y'shai is foolish. In Kreich's mind, I'm certain he feels fully justified in what he is doing."

Caelumia says, "But he fails to grasp the potential consequences."

Malzard says, "Or we fail to grasp the alternatives..."

Eltrinel says to Rekletiva, "True but he is not a servant of the guild, apparently, if he is not obeying orders given him"

Galren says, "Nothin' like the smell of potential sectarian violence to get ones blood moving."

Terra says, "It would look to me almost more that he observes and has drawn his own conclusion based on what he thinks is best for the guild. A sort of blind conviction."

Caelumia says to Galren, "I have spoken with our beloved patriarch about the proper course of action already. I hope you will agree."

Gallank loudly says, "So da Y'Shai can only do what dey're ordered? Stories never told me dey were like da gnome machines."

Galren says, "I follow the will of the Family."

Coralin says, "But ultimately it is Erzebet and Taramaine that control them like puppets."

Caelumia says, "I believe a halt was called to their production after the first one died, and they realized the soul is irreparably damaged in the process."

Gallank loudly says, "Oh? I thought some o' dem wandered 'round Throne City."

Relica says, "And because of the magic needed to make one."

Coralin says, "They are stationed there, they do not roam."

Eltrinel says to Gallank, "They do on orders."

Glizten asks, "So now you need to decide whether to Scourge the Y'Shai or do nothing?"

Jappal says, "accept to Shard for weekend getaways apparently"

Malzard says to Glizten, "Not exactly."

Malzard asks Caelumia, "Although that might be your preference, no?"

Galren says, "Could always get comfy on the fence if yer worried."

Glizten says to Malzard, "Just trying to follow here"

Coralin says, "Removing the Y'Shai is simply not an option, nor something I think anyone wants to attempt. They are unfortunately a very valuable asset to the guild."

Malzard says to Glizten, "The Scouring would eliminate the Children of Kalestraum."

Caelumia says, "Some years ago, Karosti offered his own choice to students - to choose not to get involved and remain alive, or assault them and die in the process."

Malzard says to Glizten, "And the rogue Y'Shai plans to lead it. The question is whether his course is right."

Caelumia says, "At the very least, there is no indication that students who choose to remain uninvolved will be killed."

Rekletiva says to Malzard, "Or feasible."

Malzard says to Rekletiva, "They die easily enough..."

Rekletiva says, "So do we."

Galren says, "I hear these things are near immortal..."

Jappal asks, "Let me ask this question....if we had a Council...would this be as big an issue as it may be now?"

Caelumia says, "Yes. But a dead Y'shai stays dead."

Caelumia says, "Their soul does not walk."

Malzard says, "I'm not talking about the Y'Shai"

Coralin says, "The only Y'Shai I've seen killed has been by Tezirah herself."

Caelumia says, "It is...simply lost."

Glizten says, "Even immortals things die"

Gallank loudly says, "A great sacrafice dey made."

Rekletiva says to Glizten, "That's an interesting claim for a cleric to make."

Caelumia says, "Malzard is right."

Caelumia asks, "Do you believe Kreich is correct?"

Quetocuin asks, "who could possibly stop a Y'shai? could even the Guildmaster Prime do such a thing?"

Gallank loudly asks, "I kin 'ardly 'ide da fact dat I'm young, but I dislike 'im bgein labeled 'rogue' jus cause ya disagree wit what 'e's doin. 'as someone 'o rank named 'em rogue?"

Rekletiva says, "You're not rogue. You're loud."

Aseron quietly says to Gallank, "Lower your voice in respect for those wiser."

Caelumia says to Gallank, "I've said a few times that Mortom believes he is rogue, and that he admitted he was not acting on orders."

Dricila asks, "Jappal has mentioned twice if any feel the lack of Council situation would effect this outcome, any thoughts on that?"

Caelumia says, "You are welcome to your beliefs, of course."

Caelumia says, "I believe if we had a Council that we would be in a much better state in general."

Caelumia says, "I think this strike comes at a very poor time in general, if such a thing would ever be the correct course of action. It will only weaken us."

Malzard says, "Yet we were tasked by the Prime. To defend against this corruption. And we -know- the source."

Malzard says, "If we stop them now perhaps it can end with Sever Thread."

Glizten says to Rekletiva, "Remember when clerics were able to raise the dead through Hodierna? It almost killed her "

Caelumia says to Malzard, "People remember."

Malzard says to Caelumia, "I hope they do."

Caelumia says, "That was the flaw in the Compact's logic."

Coralin asks, "So even though Taramaine hasn't ordered it, and Mortom is against it, you think all those on the side of the guidl should side with Kreich?"

Malzard says to Caelumia, "They blew you up for Gods sake. They want us all dead."

Caelumia says, "I refuse to believe that we as an organization haven't moved past acts as base and animalistic as mass murder."

Malzard says to Caelumia, "There is no reason to believe the aim is anything different."

Rekletiva says to Quetocuin, "Cleric. Not Barbarian."

Caelumia says to Malzard, "They haven't wanted us all dead."

Gallank loudly says to Aseron, "I am Gor'Tog, I 'ave ta put up wit yer tiny buildins, itty bitty streets, an everythin made three sizes less den it should. I am not gonna whisper."

Caelumia says, "Everelles, perhaps Xailes... but that wasn't their aim."

Aseron quietly says, "Then you will not speak."

With amazing speed, Aseron strikes Gallank in the throat with the edge of his flattened palm. Gallank clutches his throat, wheezing pathetically.
The shock causes Gallank to drop his cambrinth figurine!

Caelumia says, "You don't remember what he said, do you? They never wanted -us-."

Coralin says, "Everelles was just insane."

Gallank loudly says, "I am speakin in a normal tone o'"

Caelumia says, "If any of you shed blood here at this meeting you will be introduced to Galren's throwing hammer. Face first."

Coralin says, "Mental blast and be done with it instead then."

Caelumia says, "I hope I'm understood."

Kreanth exclaims, "oh, I wanna see that!"

Caelumia says, "Taramaine has not expressed an active interest in rebuilding the Council."

Marsais says, "We were formed on the foundation of a Council though."

Gallank loudly asks Caelumia, "'ave any o' da other guildleaders or notables expressed an opinion on dis?"

Caelumia quietly says, "Six pillars, not one."

Malzard says, "They were -all- killed at once. Our most gifted...."

Quetocuin asks, "I missed the beginning of the meeting so excuse me if it's been said, but didn't the last council get killed off?"
Malzard says, "It has indeed been too long, but the task is incredible."

Quetocuin asks, "who'd volunteer for that fate?"

Marsais asks, "Who killed them?"

Jappal says, "If the Y'shai..go Rogue....I would think..that would only solidify the issue, a Council, is much needed..."

Jappal asks, "Since at one time every council member had 2 Y'shai gaurdians, that served them....isn't that correct?"

Dricila says, "I'm as equally concerened for our fate and lack of council as I am for who would ultimately be on it"

Quetocuin asks, "what good would a council do against a bunch of rogue Y'shai? they'd just become targets no?"

Coralin says, "The council members were and would be more powerful than the Y'Shai."

Caelumia says, "The Y'shai are powerful, not unkillable."

Jappal says, "Not if somewhere ingrained into them is a instint to serve the Council"

Ravenwolf says, "I think the problem is too much power concentrated in too few hands. "

Caelumia says, "Aside from a gaggle of students, no."

Malzard says, "Yet she would hang on the every word of a stranger in shadow for anlaen on end."

Rekletiva says to Quetocuin, "Three are more than one."

Malzard asks Caelumia, "Perhaps we should cloak ourselves next time?"

Coralin says, "Bodyguards have been a status symbol for centuries...and besides everyone needs lackies."

Eltrinel says to Quetocuin, "Many, if not most, rulers have two, or more, guards less powerful then themselves."

Kreanth asks, "ya have two guards more powerful than ya, they would just overthrow ya?"

Galren says, "Depends on where the guards loyalties lie."

Quetocuin says, "just sounds like the council is appointed or elected"

Kreanth says, "power does strange things, even to the loyal"

Quetocuin says, "and the Y'shai are trained and cultivated for a long time"

Caelumia says, "Let us set aside for a moment whether or not Kreich is truly a rogue Y'shai."

Caelumia asks, "Do you believe his course of action to be correct?"

Yavus says, "It seems more logical to me that he is following someone's orders rather than being rogue"

Malzard says, "His aim is correct, at least."

Jappal says, "I cannot make a call on that..until I fully understand all angles"

Quetocuin says, "that's an impossible question, genocide or sorcery"

Caelumia says, "But it is a question you will have to answer."

Eltrinel says to Malzard, "I believe that those who know most about a situation are better able to make a decision. I do not think myself unintelligent or incapable of choosing. However you all have more insight then I. I try to draw from that insight in making my own choices."

Quetocuin asks, "don't those two things contradict each other?"

Malzard says to Eltrinel, "Ahhh, I see it helps us all to be more specific. That makes a great deal of sense."

Caelumia asks, "Pet?"

Caelumia says to Malzard, "I am no such thing."

Coralin says, "He'll keep his mouth shut as well, he's not an idiot and he knows he's gone far enough."

Quetocuin asks Rekletiva, "nice weather we're having eh?"

Caelumia says, "Your vitriol is offensive."

Rekletiva says to Quetocuin, "It's daytime. There can be no nice weather when the stars are washed out by the ambient light of a too bright fixture."

Caelumia says to Malzard, "And you may reject all I try to do... but do not poison the minds of students with that garbage."

Quetocuin says, "I should never have gotten out of bed today"

Malzard asks, "Garbage?"

Caelumia says to Malzard, "You cavort with sorcerers more closely than I ever have."

Malzard says, "I simply condemn your peddling, and not your acceptance, then."

Caelumia says to Malzard, "I have never shared a bed with one."

Mystic Kreanth just arrived.

Kreanth says, "I dont know, sex with me can be very sorcerous"

You turn the gaharzen a few ways, trying to activate it. You hear an unsettling metallic click, and the gaharzen vibrates slightly in your hand.
The gaharzen pulses a moment then shatters in majestic beauty, sending slivers flying.

Ok, so . . .

Once upon a time some folks (F1) learned how to do something.
Later, other folks (F2) did not want to them to do that, so they tried to kill them all,
But, they failed.
And yet, they (F2) claim to run the "guild,"
But F2 are not all of the same mind.
And F2 do not, can not, or will not be bothered to talk straight with us.
And F2 do not "run" us other than controlling the spells we can learn and the rate of our gain.

Now, someone (Y1) wants F2 to finish the job they started of killing the F1, but we do not know "who" is behind it.
And we are peons.
F1 are stronger than us.
F2 are stronger than us.
Y1 is stronger than us.
None of them will tell us anything more than cryptic reasons and vaugue morality.
Certainly, none of them will be completely open and honest with us.
And yet, somehow, we think F1 and F2 both want us to do something.

As for morality, Bah.
We are as bad as any of them; when we do not like something, we kill or threaten to;
The art of reasoned persuasion is lost.
So how can we expect to "talk" to any of "them" (F1, F2, Y1) to convince them to change,
when we cannot even talk to ourselves.
(Thank you for proving this by bringing an "enforcer" to a meeting).
And by the way, the Nomad culture is NOT that war is bad; only unjust (and the like) war is bad.

So, in the end,
Somebody wants a conflict,
But what is in it for us,
Other than mere killing for its own sake,
Which some of us like?
So, cry Havoc!, and let slip the dogs of war.
Its just more of the same in the end.
