The way you listed the two effects makes them seem independent of each other. Is that correct to say? I.e. it always provides the benefit of ignoring telescope requirements even if not observing the selected constellation.

That looks amazing.

Is the telescope bypass to make it less intensive to code? Will you still need PG to pierce cloud cover?

No. It's more of a convenience thing. You'll actually get slightly better results using a telescope like normal - it doesn't give any bonuses. It should only give you targets you can actually observe (For example, it won't give a 50th circle caster an Enigma as a target).

>>Will you still need PG to pierce cloud cover?

It does not help you with weather in any way. I recommend combining it with other perception spells (well, perception spells since it's going to move over to stellar.)

I'd prefer RtR require a telescope for observing celestial bodies that aren't visible to the naked eye especially in light of Craft Engineered telescopes but on the other hand I can appreciate convenience.

I'm really looking forward to this spell.

I'm definitely intrigued by this as well.

As far as I can remember, currently telescopes just provide a perception boost and a binary check to observation. If this spell sort of replaces that, are there plans to upgrade telescopes to do other things?

<<just provide a perception boost

Technically I think they let you pierce cloud cover slightly instead of providing a perception boost to the check. I've heard the former and not the latter, at any rate. It might be both. Either way, I do know that the bonus they provide is small and changes insignificantly with telescope quality.

As for other uses, I think there was talk of them maybe being used in enchanting as a tool to gather Moon Mage specific sigils? That was a long time ago though.

Yes, telescopes help combat bad weather. Otherwise it's a binary check.

Telescopes also need some serious TLC (And possibly a full blown rewrite) but it hasn't managed to get to the top of the pile.

As for Read the Ripples - it just bypasses the binary check. You'd still benefit from actually using a telescope. I also imagine most people will end up observing a lot outside of Read the Ripples even after learning the spell, so I really don't think this is devaluing them very much.

Had a thought about RtR. I just failed an observation on Szeldia 3 times in a row with only 1/2 cloud cover so it ended up taking 20 seconds to make an observation. As RtR pulses from celestial body to celestial body speed is the whole point. Do you skip that observation and move on to the next constellation prompt if you miss an observation or does RtR keep the last constellation or 2 in the can to allow you try to catch up? Or does RtR wait for a successful observation from you before pulsing to the next body?

If you cannot, or do not, successfully observe it's target it will eventually switch.

Thanks, Raesh, so it's waiting for you to do your thing. I'm looking forward to RtR...maybe even more than the nightmarish shadowy hellscape of Shadow Web.

Just an update - the spell itself has been finished (Though not QC'd) for awhile and I'm just working on the quest right now. I know exactly what the quest is going to be and most of the technical parts for it are done (Though not all). I've just been struggling to get the creative part of it finished. I'm hoping to knock that out today or tomorrow and depending on how QC goes you could see the spell mid-Feb possibly?

There's another release coming soon that's in the later stages of QC that I've been sitting on awhile that I think you'll all enjoy but doing the last round of fixes to that is also conflicting with my plan to finish the RTR quest today, but I think it'll be ready within the next few days unless this last round of fixes goes really sour.

The other two ritual spells are a little further out. Technically and conceptually they should be easy to write (Certainly easier than RTR, and neither needs a quest), but I haven't started writing them yet.

Just throwing it out there, but I'm really looking forward to Crystal Spike / Sorrow. Shadow web would be pretty cool reworked also. I'm not to worried about getting the perception based rituals myself for a bit, as i'll most likely be saving up some spell slots. I do however appreciate the work you're putting into everything.

>>Just throwing it out there, but I'm really looking forward to Crystal Spike / Sorrow.

This is high on the list of things we want to get out and Armifer and I have already discussed scaling back the quest if we reach the point that that's the bottleneck.

The real problem is that it needs a new TM table which we all hate writing and it's extremely dependent on the pulse TM spell mechanics which I hacked together from a few different bits of code quite some time ago that need a few more passes and polish (I know of at least two fairly major bugs with that code that need to be resolved before it can go live).

>>Shadow web would be pretty cool reworked also.

I have a really cool concept approved for this spell but I'm not sure where it fits into the timeline of development. I'd love to just spend all my time making Moon Mage spells but I need to share my time elsewhere too.

>>I'm not to worried about getting the perception based rituals myself for a bit, as i'll most likely be saving up some spell slots.

They're high on the list mostly because they'll be really easy to write and should have a large RoI for the people who do like them. We're talking a couple hundred lines of code and a few lines of messaging. Both together will be less work than finishing Sorrow.

Expletive, expletive. Now I have to keep shape moonblade in my spellbook.

So now we need to be able to force push telekinetically floating moonblades so they'll attack targets while we dual wield other moonblades.

Uhm. I kind of want to propose that spell now but I also don't want to be hit repeatedly by the rest of the development team.

Cyclic melee-only AoE that just uses a moonblade as a component of casting and used regular combat messaging for strikes?
