After the recent changes to CF that let me cast it multiple times per mob, I've been disinclined to pick up Devour. Given now that I can target an undamaged body part with two castings per mob, is there any reason to pick up Devour?

Just FYI, simplicity isn't a concern for me unless Devour manages to heal more than 2-3 casts of CF.

There's a change coming to Devour that may make you inclined to give it a second look. Might be soonish, might be after Risen, dependent on a few variables.

I like Devour because I can be lazy and not track where I am hurt and how I killed the healing corpse. It makes touch up healing much faster for me: Kill mob, Prep Dev, Consume Ritual, Cast, next target.

Ooo. Juicy.

Even that aside I find Devour more mana efficient for very serious wounds than CF. And you can CF a corpse then use your last shot at it to Devour instead, or to hit a body part you destroyed when you killed it.

Leaving simplicity aside as you requested, there are two scenarios where devour is useful today.

1. You have a single, very damaged body part to heal.
I've found devour's heals to be much stronger than CF regardless of how much mana I use. For example, if I explode a hand from sorcery I can heal it completely with one cast of devour (and therefore one corpse). With CF I need > 1 cast and > 1 corpse

2. You need to heal a body part that is destroyed on the corpse
Pretty self-explanatory, but if you're like me you get annoyed when you want to heal your chest but the corpse doesn't have one anymore.

CF is generally better for all other scenarios. I also like using devour at the end of a hunting trip to make sure I don't have any undetected lingering wounds or scars, but maybe that's just me.

I have a DEVOUR routine which I fire off every like... 10th critter... to help keep wounds down. Really lets you stay in combat for-ev-er.

I am sold on the increased single cast healing, and mostly for blowing my hand off, since that is the only damage I usually have that takes more than 1-2 casts of CF to heal.

Hopefully Armifer's change won't change that aspect.

The change isn't going to affect the current numbers on the spell, it's just adding a beneficial little twist.

Allow it to heal poison/disease and Ill strongly consider getting it. As it is now, Id rather use those two spell slots towards spell feats. Though tbh, I dont get poisoned/diseased often, but the option to deal with it would be worth the cost.

I think the ability to deal with disease and poison would be awesome, but thematically be more of a self extraction spell rather than the drain healing mechanic like CF/Devour. Maybe something like a metaspell for Blood Burst where you perform cut and then cast a spell that painfully pulls the disease out. Better yet, to pull out the disease you have to have a living target to dump it into.

Guess it depends, do we transfer our wounds to the corpse, or is the flesh, even of a corpse, a power unto itself that we tap into and as a result we are healed.

That's odd, because at around 160+ circle I didn't even bother messing with devour because I found it inferior in almost every way in regards to healing power per cast. It does help if your lazy and getting those internals that you might not see. I just didn't wanna waste the spell slots on it since I didn't use it, even though I had plenty to spare.

Guesses:
1) restores vitality and/or fatigue
2) can push vitality and/or fatigue past 100% (woo, gluttony!)
3) turns into a SV meta that also requires CF and can be usable on living mobs
4) turns you into PacMan

I have the same feeling in light of the new changes to CF. I still use Devour in my combat script due to the lower restrictions on target damage.
