Just wondering... Since we are weapons tert, how many weapons have been able to train without significantly hindering their rate of circling or moving on in hunting grounds? I started training all of them but I'm quickly realizing that this isn't possible long term while keeping my sanity. I know I can jump between multiple hunting grounds but my survivals have totally outpaced my weapons and I'm getting tired of not learning survival.

Well, Stealth provides a pretty nice bonus to hit, but as a weapon/armor tert you could feasibly easily keep a lot of weapons/armors moving. If you want the TDPs, go for it. Like... 10 weapons + all armors?

But keep in mind to use heavier weapons effectively you'll need more Str. Considering weapons are a tert skill for us, it's a lot of other investment for something that won't be terribly prioritized in PvP or climbing the critter ladder. My training priority is TM/Stealth>>>>>Magics>>weapons/crafts/survivals I've been neglecting.

I do three, can reasonably comfortably train everything in the same area, and could probably have stood to fit another weapon or two into the mix.

I did two, but I wanted to move up the creature ladder when my magic and defenses permitted and it seems to have worked out.

I found 12 was my happy place. If you're more magic-centric 8 is easier to keep moving while maintaining solid Experience gain in all your magics.

My necro, surprise surprise, trained all except bow. Since you're weapon tert, they drain slowly, so it's fairly easy to lock them all. I didn't leave an area until I could hit the next creature with weapons, though. If you are hunting above what you can hit reliably then that may not be your best bet.

But training all isn't any slower than training a couple, since they drain slowly.

I train four weapons + offhand and two armors. I kind of wish I'd trained more armors, but meh. The rate weapons learn means to really not have it totally hold me back I need to use stealth to hit reliably when moving up a critter, and frankly, TM/evasion/skinning/than/stealth is far more important than weapon ranks.

I did waste a bunch of TDPs in Str and Stam training recently when I upgraded my weapons to something a bit heavier. Shrug.

I am probably gimping myself, but I started with training 6 weapons, and as they reached 200 I dropped everything in favor of just small edged. I am currently about 200 ranks difference between those that I stopped and my lil knife, and hope to one day go back and maybe work some weapons again. Not having all those extra tdps sucks, but I try to limit my hunts to between 40-60 minutes before going off to train other things and when I did several weapons I wasn't efficient enough to keep them all locked when I left combat.

The skill I hate training though is thanatology, and can't wait to get another 300ish more so I don't feel beholden to it any longer.

Thanatology isn't bad. Athletics and Outdoorsmanship, my 7th and 8th survivals, are the worst.

Between stealth and PV, I've been pretty astounded at how low my weapons can be and still hit things. I still consider them largely a hobby though, since any time I'm killing anything on purpose it is with magic. The main problem I have is that killing with my weapons is too slow to reliably train Thanatology; if my weapons were a bit higher I could maybe change my murder mode based on who is locked (TM vs. Any Weapon.)

But my last character was a Moon Mage so I'm pretty used to having lackluster weapons.

This is the key really. You don't have to keep things locked to keep them moving well. It's better to keep more skills hovering at 16/34 than just a couple mindlocked.

Another key is to use high-balance weapons when possible. Better balance = better accuracy = able to use it at-level sooner. I can still train everything in the same area (albeit slowly) in part because all of my weapons sacrifice some power/damage for balance.

I am the posterchild for Doing It Wrong in terms of powergaming though, so I only really train the weapons my character would be interested in (minus crossbow, because training it is like pulling teeth). It costs me in the long run.

My necro always tossed USOL up when there were enough creatures around. Helped kill quickly for Thanatology, and I was always swinging a weapon.

That sounds like a good idea, although so far I've made all of my spell use decisions on whether they have room-wide messaging or not. No HP, CFB, CF. I know that if someone stands in my room or actually looks at me I'll be screwed, but I felt it a fair compromise.

I train all weapons and magics, besides slings.. screw slings (and i forgot in the beginning) Though extremely tedious to train this way the sheer tdps involved with this process is awesome. That being said, like a few others here.. im in general hunting areas maybe twice or three times as long as any other guild that isnt weapon tert. When my weapons catch up enough to move to the next area so im able to hit them, I move on and repeat the process. It makes me feel great to see my character isnt half trained like most Ive seen, im well rounded and will continue to do so. Besides, tdps make things move faster in the end.

1) Well-Balanced weapons are great
2) Crossbow is one of the easiest to train(all ranged are very easy to train now that they fixed bow/shield blocking)
3) To each their own, I prefer as many as possible but in the same regard, i forgot slings and let it suffer.

Sounds like you're nerfing your TM/stealth training.

Nah, hardly. Everything moves quite well, and the areas ive been hunting have the next area up very close by. Besides, as soon as im within weapon range to move.. i do. I admit, when I started my necro I had no help and tried to learn everything on my own, so I made some bad mistakes with my magic choices and neglected my magics somewhat cause I didnt want to "out" myself early with all the "obvious" spells, but I learned. Ive only been back playing DR for a few months now with necro not being my main, but i enjoy him and the idea of it more than other guilds. My goal: well rounded. I dont ever plan on abandoning my necro now.. I like him too much. Not to mention all the work the GM has been doing to help them out a bit.
