You think to yourself, "Blinded by the lies of corruption. These old fools won't ever understand true justice. They call themselves moral, and have those morals spoon fed to them like goats. They fight with honor, attacking the enemies of those who deceive them. When will they think and speak for themselves?"
Let Lyras win.

My question is this, perhaps I am too naive. There usually are stories to why enemies attack. What about finding out the truth behind the stories in order to stop it?
From my perspective I'd love a good invasion and slaughter anyone, but my character is more calm, she has come to hate wars and fighting, so many innocent die caught in the crossfire. Children loosing parents and so forth. Is there not a way to avoid it and save lives?
Wars bring about distrust of each other, people choosing sides, friendships lost, until the lines are blurred and we don't know what we are fighting for anymore.
We are the defenders of the light etc. The only thing that my character is interested in is saving lives and protecting innocents caught in the crossfire.
For example, a little boy tries to steal aloaf of bread to feed himself <no parents to help him out> and a holy warrior claiming justice kills the little boy for theft. To me that isn't what a paladin is about. I would have taken that child under my wing and helped him, fed him, clothed him. Asked him what profession he would be interested in etc.
In other words find the root of the problem and deal with it and set an example.

...as the Chamber Announcer begins to call out the name of the next speaker in line...
"Sir Sebestyen Kuliniac of Therengia, Lord of.."
Sebestyen waves his hand interrupting the Announcer saying,"No need for all of that, good man, I am here as a humble Paladin only."
"Brothers and sisters, this is indeed a time of turmoil and reflection. The basic truths we have been taught may not have been as originally intended. I have spent much time of late in prayer and toiling against dark forces contemplating our Code, and the Immortals."
"As many of us who attempt to follow our Code knows, it is a difficult road. We often stray from it as we are all flawed, either by pride, greed, selfishness, or over-zealousness in whatever cause we have at the moment. In order to continue in the Light requires prayer and repentence."
"I have found that each of us is a reflection of the Immortals, made of both light and dark. The Thirteen have both light and dark aspects, and all are to be revered and paid some respect. The choice then, becomes what principles of the Immortals do we embrace, and which do we eschew as we conduct our lives. Are we adherents of Boltof, and lie, cheat and steal? Or perhaps Trothfang, butchering and torturing our foes, inflicting great pain on them using any means available, without a thought of honor."
"Look inside yourself, and you will find a part that is capable of these things, but we must make a choice. There is speculation that there is an older code, but we have no idea what it's tenets are. I cannot believe that it will accept 'Paladins' that embrace the Dark, but who knows? As the good Herender asks, can we accept those who would embrace the dark?"
"In time, we may learn what our visions of late mean. No matter the outcome, each of us will choose our own paths as our hearts dictate. I pray we as a guild will continue to walk in the Light."
"Thank you for listening to my ramblings."
