Just came from the combat seminar with Damissak and crew. First off (and why I posted this in this folder)...
Shield bash will be released. Exact date to be determined. During HSN timeframe... not months down the road. Open to all.. "some guilds to be better at it than others" paraphrasing Damissak.
In addition, announced releases are:
Off-hand, dual weapon weilding
Heavy Thrown/Light Thrown changed to heavy/light projectile skill because working blowguns will arrive
Bullwhips will work as weapons (possibly with enhanced ability to disarm your opponent?)
Disarm skill will be renamed to Traps
New skill of Acrobatics will be released.
Changes in engagement.. retreat will take time (much like advance from missile to pole.. to melee).. with a "contest" check to see if you succeed.. and being in combat.. jab/parry/dodge while that back up and contest is going on. No more.. "retreat" and automatically be out of range of a melee weapon.
New hiding/advancing.. hide (skill check to see if you were seen), if successful, advance to pole.. where there is another skill check to see if target spotted you)... then close to melee where there is another skill check to see if you were spotted.. then attack.
Protection (ie. ability to KEEP you coin) is no longer based on victims stealing ranks.. but rather on perception. (did I see you in time or not).
Enhancements to learning perception.. juggle HARDER/HEAVIER things successfully and learn more perception faster.. additional changes that make learning perception better, not the "free experience" it was outside the bank.. but better than it is now.
The above are simply what has been released/stated by GMs. In many cases they did not elaborate on the "how this works".. nor were they specific on when this goes into effect. Some releases go in as early as this coming Thursday.. others may be a month or so off.
I'm sure others will be posting more specifics (saw a number taking notes on laptops direct so their memory being silicon is better than my merely flesh memory) but those are the high points I've gotten today.

Heya Redarch,
Hear anything more about this dual wielding system? I have heard some things and frankly I am more than a little concerned. What I have heard is that blocking and parrying will now include a roundtime for the hand that did the blocking. This got me thinking...
1. Wow, I'm sure glad I'm a survival primary. Now that evasion will be the only defense without a roundtime I should be golden.
2. Ah nuts, forgot I'm survival tertiary.
3. Ah double nuts, my shield's gonna be locked in roundtime and I'll never get to use shield bash!
Anyone know something that could give me some comfort here?

This is the way Veyl and Damissak explained it. These are my words paraphrasing what they said. Any errors or omissions are MY fault and not theirs. Please .. no posts about "Red said Dami said... " <grin>
An example of syntax they were considering was..
jab right goblin left leg
bash left goblin (shield bash to no selected spot)
During this "invisible" roundtime after the jab and bash.. say both got a 3 RT.. if the goblin attacked during the first second of that 3 RT.. you are 2/3's hindered in parrying the blow.. if it attacked during the last second of the RT.. you are 1/3 hindered in parrying.. but in both cases it is "possible" to still parry that blow.. if failed.. it checks shield.. counting the shield bash RT.. your shield block may be hindered a percentage. In all cases, unless you did some physical action like advance or circle or parry or dodge (body RT), you have a "body RT" which allows you to try and retreat if you are being attacked by multiples and it is tying you up trying to block with both hands. That is supposed to keep from from getting "pinned" as they called it.. ie, constantly on the defensive and unable to try to attack because of constant "hand" RTs while defending.. at least with a "body" RT.. you can try to step back and recover. The only "visible" RT will be the body one.. just like now. They are still working on how to indicate that you have a "left hand" 3 RT for the shield bash, since the RT bar will only show the body RT.
>>Guess we'll just have to get the paladin-only armor-primary ultra-justice-tactice of "Backhand that fool with your shield in a counterattack" skill.
There was something mentioned about shield bashing.. also brawling will become PART of the regular combat system. No more having to go thru 3 RT to switch into Brawling mode. You want to punch that goblin in the snout? Go ahead. Wearing the plate gauntlet will likely do more damage to it than someone wearing a leather glove or bare-handed. Slapping and punching then jabbing with your sword.. all one system.
>>Any word on pommel bash? Wasn't that supposed to become a Barb attack ability while shield bash became a Paladin one originally? Is it still coming, and is it Guild restricted?
We specifically mentioned that. Damissak? said it was still on the table, but they chose to do the work on shield bash first.. along with moving brawling into regular combat. He gave no indication when.. just that it was still planned.

So, is combat RT changing completely as we now know it? In other words you can jab something be in RT and still bash something?
At first take, no I don't like any concept of shield bash being seen as something other than a natural extension of using the shield. As in the penalties mentioned. Look at it this way.... the rt invovlved should be an expression of what time it takes to fully complete a move that doesn't necessitate the requirement of a reduced capacity to defend. It is like saying that during the rt of swinging your weapon you should suffer a reduced capacity to evade.

I personally would hate to see a reduced ability to parry when swinging, blocking when shieldwhatevering, but evasion getting ANOTHER pat on the back... Although, if I read it right, if I don't whap something with my shield, I keep blockin...shouldn't be an issue after all this time of NOT being able to whap something.. Guess we'll have to see. On the plus side, with the retreat changing, maybe Hangback will be usable for those archer types.

Sounds like Multi Opponent is going to be harder with these penalties for defense. Might not be too bad if there is a way to tell which goblin just attacked you.
With the upcoming changes coming I'm seeing you timing your attack for right after they attack, but if there are 2 or 3 on you that would be very hard and would also mean you are likely to be attacked during your RT.
If we could tell which attacked us, at least we could take advantage of their penalty.

When I hunted Death Spirits with Bilgrath quite some time ago, every time one swung at him I'd see which one it was attacking him. And then I nearly died. ::grins::

Ahh thanks Red. Good to know I won't be locked in shield RT all day. Any word on the applicability of the bash to combat? I know in medieval times knights would strike opponents with their shields to throw their opponents balance off a bit rather than strike a killing blow. I guess my question is whether they let slide the type of effects it has be it just damage or more for throwin off the balance.
